Show "Go From Home, Etc. " The Salt Lake Tribune this morning publishes the following as a special from its Washington correspondent: The Evening News tonight prints the following interview with George Q. Cannon: 'Hon, George Q. Cannon, for many years the delegate in congress from Utah territory, is a guest at the Shore-ham. Shore-ham. Mr. Cannon only made a flying trip to see the president on important business. Speaking to the News reporter re-porter about the political situation in Utah he said: " 'I think our constitutional convention, conven-tion, which is now in session, will com plete its business, and adjourn in six weeks, and then we will have Eome red- hot politics.' Asked which party would elect the two United States senators when the territory is admitted to statehood, Mr. Cannon replied: " 'I have every reason to believe the democrats will elect the first state leg islature and send two men of our party to the senate. Utah is a rock-ribbed territory, though occasionally, as was the case last fall, the enemy slips in and beats us.' "Mr. Cannon's second Bon, a bright young fellow, is the new delegate in congress from Utah. He is the only republican in the Cannon family. Ihe elder Cannon was one of the twelve Mormon apostlee. He is a polished old gentleman, and is reckoned as one of the very brainiest men in the west. If he has political aspirations and no one seemB to know that he has he could easily secure a seat in the senate if the democrats elect the first state legislature." When the Tribune correspondent reached the Shoreham, he was informed in-formed that Mr Cannon had left the city for New York, so an authentication authentica-tion ol the interview was impossible. It is forwarded for what it is worth, and must be taken with several grains of allowance. |
