Show Blank Verse. Blank cr nnrhymed is that form of heroio verse which is commonly employed em-ployed in English dramatic and epio poetry. It was introduced by the Earl of Surrey, who died in 1547, in his translation of the second and fourth books of "JEneid." It was 'first employed em-ployed in the drama in Sackville and Norton's tragedy of "Fcrrex and Por-rex," Por-rex," which was printed in 1565, but it was not till Marlowe adopted it in his play of "Tamburlaiue the Great" that it became the form regularly employed em-ployed in the metrical drama, which it has since, with only occasional intervals, inter-vals, remained. After Milton's use of it in "Paradise Lost" it was widely extended ex-tended to many other classes of composition. compo-sition. Brooklyn Eagle. |
