Show Lost the Prize. The late James Crossiey, a noted bibliomaniac, hied him one memorable day to a bookstall in Shudehill market, and spying a little volume rook it up and glanced carelessly througn ie. Alter awhile he asked its price from an old woman and was told it was two and sixpence. "I'll give you sixpence for it," said Crossiey. "Nay," replied the poor old dame, "it cost me 2 shillings. " Whereupon our book devourer threw it down in disgu.-t and retired. A gentleman, gentle-man, overhearing the altercation, stepped step-ped forward and purchased it at the sum demanded. Crossiey returned soon after, and noticing the book had gone anxiously inquired what had become o it. "Sold," answered the woman, "fox what you refused to give.
