Show AUVE, BUT PI ONOUNCED DEAD. Pcstoratlon of the F pee eh. of a Mute Child Who Was Once Prepared For the Oravc After being mute for two years the fittle 7-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Brook ol Vineland, through seeing the blood flowing from a cut on one of her finpers, suddenly regained her speech. The caso is a remarkable one and has excited the interest of physicians and of those who are acquainted with tho circumstances of her affliction and most remarkable recovery. Two years ago the little girl, who was then 5 years of age, suddenly lost her power of speech. She was eating an apple at the time and in some manner dislocated one of her teeth. She ran into the houso and threw herself on th& lounge, vlth blood flowing from her mouth. She refused to answer any ques-tions, ques-tions, and the iuquiries of her astonished parents only elicited so'feJ and moans. The next day the child was still muta and also refused x partake of any fcod. Her parents befttime alarmed, and pay. picians were called in. They were un-tible un-tible to dkgnose the strange malady, Kad the child grew worse. Medical skill ws of no avail, and she grew weak and ej adnted. After several weeks the child dif d apparently, and the doctors pro-ninoed pro-ninoed he? dead and left. The little laifm was covered with a shroud and preparations for the funeral begun, when sigr-s of life were discovered in the seeming corpse. The girl sat up and with her fingers made signs indicative of her desire for food. From that moment she began to mend slowly and in tbw course of a year regained her former good health and spirits. She was still, however, as silent a3 a sphinx. Nothing could induce her to utter a word, and she continued in this condition until a short time ago. She accidentally cut her finger while playing one day, and the red blood flowed from tho wound. Either the Bight or the smell of the fluid seemed to have a 6trange effect upon the child, and that day marked the turning point in the history of the casa During that 6ame night, while in bed, she startled her sister by speaking her name quite distinctly.
