Show UTAH STATEHOOD The Bill Will Take a Favorable Favor-able Position ON SENATE CALENDAR For Passage It Will bo Eeported Favorably Favor-ably by the Committee Within Three Weeks Opposition Comes Only From Eastern Senators Chairman Faulkner A Staunch Friend. Washington, April 18. The senate sen-ate territories committee held a meet ing today, at which a considerable portion of the Utah admissionbill was considered. Within the next three weeks, the measurs will be fayorably reported. Being pressed for an opinion whether he thought it would be passed this session Chairman Faulkner said he saw no reason why it should not be, as very little opposition existed among the senators, and he thought the bill ought to pass. Faulkner also said he was authorized to call the sub-committee together to consider the bill carefu Iy, and this he would do at once, tie again expreseed his desire that Utah be admitted speedily, speed-ily, and promised to do what he could to facilitate the matter. Every effort would be made by the friends of Utah to get a report, and,that accomplished, it will take a favorable position on the calendar. If the report is delayed to too late a day in the session, too many other bills will stand ahead of Utah, to enable its friends to call it up. In that event, it could cot be conveniently called up this session. The opposition is mainly from eastern senators, dominations of members of the Utah commission were today favorably reported re-ported to the senate for confirmation, Little or no opposition was manifested mani-fested in the committee. |
