Show Thx Ogden Press's poor little heart is i fluttering because of a dreadful fear that that horrible "incubus" the Utah commission will make a permanently democratic state out of Utah. We are rather of the opinion that the Pre3S is right in this. Utah is already democratic demo-cratic and the only thing to do is to straighten up districts a little which were arranged by the republican commission com-mission to suit republican needs. Re Btore the natural, and republicanism dies. The republican papers have a very wholesome fear of Charley Richards. Rich-ards. He, in their present state of mind, could, take a willow wand and run them all into Salt Lake. "The wicked flee when no man pursueth." The blessed reps, themselves know how it is done. Weber county has instructed its county attorney to bring suits againet the Southern Pacific for the coBt of maintaining the wealers it has dumped down upon her aoil. That is the proper way to proceed. That road violates the law every time i( Jaudi a tingle pcu- per in Ogden, and in her struggles with the giant corporation Webber should have all the a;d she requires from tl;e remainder of the territory. Ogden is the entreport for all this business and if we can shut it off there the balance of the territory iB saved from this now almost intolerable pest. The Carter contingent is on the wav to Washington, has been for weeks, but they have hardly got out of sight of the epires of Salt Lake city up to date. The fact is the boyB don't seem very anxious to cut loose from Zion altogether. It may be they are restrained by the doleful dole-ful reports from Coxey himself, and possibly the bleak stretch of two hundred miles of waterless desert may have some wholesome restraining force. They may as well disband and go to work. If they march for ten years, at this rate, thev will still be a couple of thousand miles short of their destination. desti-nation. A new loan is already talked of and it will have to come beyond a doubt. England is already discussing it and threatens that in the event the bonds are issued payable in coin she will not buy them. Let the United States take a tip from France, for once in a way. Issue her bonds payable in coin and restrict re-strict their sale to this country alone. She'll get all the money she wants and the interest will be paid to our own people. The Trib. has another fit of the gripes, Mr. Groo, register of the land office, has been assisting to organize the democracy. This reminds us that "when the devil was sick, the devil a saint would be, but when the devil got well the devil a saint was he." The republicans are thoroughly alarmed as to the close, careful and complete organization now being effected ef-fected of the Utah democracy. Indeed that party of blatant boasts has already al-ready passed the "walk-over stage." If the Utan republicans fear that Governor West will go to the senate upon the admission of the territory, they should at once cease warring at him on his wealer record. He did right and Utah men love justice. Too many fatal quarrels occur over water rights in this arid legion. Is this because of defective laws, or is it only man's general cussedness? The free and unlimited coinage of silver is the force that will beat common com-mon weahsm sooner than anything else, and more effectually. The Tribune has gotten over- its fright at Charley Richards, but has dumped it down plump upon the Og den Press. |
