Show THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED. Congressman Hour, Republican though he is, has hit upon the best method yet presented for the settlement of this vexed Moimon question that has been so sorely puzzling the would-be would-be statesmen of our country. In fact the question has settled itself notwith standing the ellorts ot the haters ot progress to prevent the solution, and Mr. Hour simply suggests the method which has lately been taken up. He says: "The long and bitter fight between the Mormons and Gentiles have injured ! the territory greatly. An effort is ! now being made to induce the people to divide on different lines. Some ot the Gentiles refuse to trlieve that the Mormons are sincere in their J claim that they have abandoned polygamy pol-ygamy and will henceforth ohev the laws. Many good men think the' Mormons Mor-mons should be taken at their word. t he influx of people into the territory ter-ritory from the east would be large if its real merits were understood, luui if it could he decided that the government is to be run on the principles of l"ve, charily and kindness. 1 lie practical question is how best to treat such genuine belief as the Mormons profess, even though it be all a delasii n. One's impulse is to crush it out. but the history of the world is that t lit- crushing crush-ing business seldom if ever wins. The great I'tilk of these people are smctre, devout, earnest people. Prayer and piety seem to abound among the o. I" worldly matters they are admitted to be frugal, industrious and honest. They have made a dry and barren waste rich in fields of grain, grass, roots and fruits. Would it not be well if Mormon and Gentile could unite on some pi ,n that would let the bad in each system drop out and s.inply pre- serve the good in both?" ! This is the whole thing in a nut 'shell. The Mormon people have con-j con-j ceded t verv point urged against them j by their enemies, and now why fight longer? Mormon and Gentile have united on a common plan and the territory ter-ritory is now on the high road to redemption. re-demption. The long and tioublesome Mormon problem is solved. |
