Last night, news came in from Mammoth, sixty mil 63 northeast of here, that the Indians Indi-ans are on the war-path. On Wednes- I day afternoon a man named Clark, a pro3pector, while at work in Bunker Hill district, was attacked by four Indians. In-dians. Clark is an old Indian scout and knows the country and the IndianB. He easily evaded his assailants. Clark at once started for Mammoth, twelve j miles away, for reinforcements. Com- ing in, he found the camp of William Einereon, another prospector, looted clean of valuables and food. Emerson 1 was not found and Clark believes he is killed. Clark aroused the camp at Mammoth Mam-moth and was soon at the head of a party ot men, bent on capturing the Indians. Yesterday morning a second party followed them. About twenty men are nowT on the trail of the Indiana and their capture is expected. Clark is of the opinion that the partv is either Kid and his eang, or a general outbreak of Apaches from the reservation. Neither event, would surprise him, he says. The scene of the supposed killing of Emerson is where Kid's party killed John Dlenl six years ago. On receipt of the news in Tucson, word was telegraphed by Marshal Meade to Fort Grant with a request that troops be sent there. I The request will doubtless be complied with. i CAUGHT IN THE ACT. Washington, D. C, Feb. 2, The j treasury officials have discovered that James Anderson, Indiana, trusted messenger, mes-senger, haB been pilfering silver dollars from the bags in the vaults. The bags ! were packed in boxes and piled up. Through a hole in one of the boxes Anderson cut a hole and withdrew the money. So far it has been discovered 1 that nearly a thousand dollars have j' been taken in that way, and the inv- ligation is not complete. I, Anderson is only nineteen years old I and was recently appointed to "West f Point military academy. He is now ander arrest. THE SIEGE CONTINUES. ' ' New York, Feb. 3. The Herald's Bpecial from Managua says the siege of Tegucigalpa continues. The fighting fight-ing has been continuous since January 31. The produce company held a claim against the confectioners for only $8L00, but Mr. Glenfield, owner of the building, held a claim for rent and - joined in the euit. A breach of promise case for $10,180 was filed this afternoon in the district court. The party suing is Miss ThereBa Tischner, and the party sued is Salva-tor Salva-tor La Bua. Theresa gave birth to a cdild sometime in January last year, and says Salva-tor Salva-tor is its papa, and that Salvator promised prom-ised to marry Theresa and now refuses to do so. Miss Tischner ia of Payson. La Bua is of Eureka, and is under indictment in-dictment for fornication. The W. P. Noble Mercantile company com-pany vs. Peter Matson, assignee ot the Mt. Pleasant Equitable Co-op. the ML Pleasaut Equitable Co op, the Mt. Ths complaint alleges that the papers of assignment were fraudulent and prays that they be adjudged void and that a receiver be appointed. At 11 o'clock last night at the county jail Thomas Ferris of Salem, a county ward, passed to the great beyond. Mr. Ferris has been a sufferer from paralysis for four years and has been a county patient and under the care of the quarantine quar-antine physician since July 19th last. Heart failure was the immediate cause of death. The corpse now lies at the Ford undertaking parlors. The board of directors of the Smoot Drug company met last evening and heard Manager Hedquist's report of the condition of the business and weis pleased indeed to find the business in such good condition as it is. Reed Smoot was elected president of the company for the ensuing year with . W. 11. Pike vice-president, M. II. Hardy secretary and treasurer and Alex. Hed-quist Hed-quist Jr. manager. The above with L. U. King of Salt Lake city constitute the board of directors of the com pany for the ensuing vear. The Provo gunners haye succeeded in arranging a rabbit-hunt with the gunners of Nephi to take place next Tuesday at Nephi, or between Nephi and Juab. The rabbits killed will be brought to Provo for distribution to the poor. Notice will be given as to the distribution later on. Wednesday the occasional sportsmen will shoot the professionals on the lake, team for team. Mr. Barney furnishes the wagon for the occaeionals. A good time and good sport is sure to be had. Tais committee has performed the work assigned to it and are now ready to report. The impression is that their report will be favorable.
