Show A Cowardly Assault. On Saturday night alight occurred on Cenlie street, ch.se t Robt. Bee's store, in which Samuel Carter savagely assault.-d his step-father, Mr. Wm. Dav-s, with a rock.by brutally beating him over the heed. Mr. Davis is married mar-ried to Carter's mother, and on Saturday Satur-day afternooi? Carter had been to Davis house and used veiy abusive language to lu-r, using a considerable n;;niber of cuss words, etc. Appearing Appear-ing to think th;it Davis was going to have him arrested, he followed him up. Meeting Dav is on Centre street, he picked up a rock and exclaiming, "D n him, I'll kill him," he walked up to his step-father and deliberately struck him on the face, knocking him down. He then sprang on top of him, and would no doubt have inflicted fatal fa-tal injuries had not John Dew, who happened to see the fight, come to the assistance of Davis and pulled Carter off him. Deyy held on to Carter despite des-pite his efforts to get away, until the police arrived, when he was given into custody. Carter tried to strike Devy several times, but the latter managed man-aged to evade his blows. The officers took the fellow in tow, and on Monday Mon-day he was taken before Justice Noon, plead guilty, and sentenced to pay a tine of 5-30. Further sentence was suspended sus-pended on his future good behavior. |
