Show WnAT about bids for city printing now that we have a republican city council run by the Enquirer? We used to hear an awful howling froui this same Enquirer about how the city was . being robbed by the democratic city ' council paying exhorbitant prices for printing, and it demanded that all public work, especially printing, should be let to the lowest. hiHHpr anH said that while The Dispatch was be-ing be-ing paid $1.75 for 500 letter heads (an unreasonably low price) it would furnish fur-nish them for $1.70 a thousand (a ruinously ruin-ously losing price to the printer.) There has never been a bid asked for by the present council for any printing, and already has more money been spent with the Enquirer for printing than was spent with this paper in a year by the last council. On Mondav night the Enquirer presented a bill for !2 25 tor 2,5: U letter heads and $4,00 for 500 envelopes and other work at proportionate pro-portionate prices. According to its offer of a year or so ago its bill for the letter hea 's should have been only $4 25 and the other work proportionately proportion-ately low. The city has never paid tins office more than $4 50 for 1,000 envelopes. en-velopes. No wonder the Enquirer's bill wa not allowed Who are "robbers" "rob-bers" now? And didfi't this paper call attention at the time the Enquirer was howIing,to the fact that very often he who firet cries "stop thief" is more guilty than those whom he accuses? |
