Show HOW A RfcPUuLICAN VIEWS IT. Said one who claims to be an intelligent intell-igent and thoughtful non-Mormou republican, re-publican, the other day: "If our party wins in this election it will prove to me that the church is iu politics." And when asked it, under those circumstances, cir-cumstances, he intended voting with nis party, answered in the affirmative. Ask.ed tor an explanation of such an apparently inconsistent remark, he replied re-plied aB follows: "From my personal investigations, I am satisfied that prior to that unfortunate priesthood meeting, meet-ing, the democrats were making rapid gains and would have won except for the priesthood incident. Now, if Utah goes republican it will be because of that incident, and it will convince me that it was premeditated." Then why do you Intend to vote with your p&rty, and thus help to swell the possible majority? ma-jority? asked the writer. "Well," he smilingly replied, '"I can figure out my vote. But I will say right here, that if enough of the Mormon democrats stand by non-interference of high churchmen in politics, I will vote with that party in the future, as I know that ulterior influences have been used." |
