Show 9Hj PAR FY POLITICS. H It is absolutely necessary tbat for 9 t. any number of individuals who have 9 common desire to succeed in obtain- RH ing their wishes that they should IHH 'unite in some common line of action, 99 hence we have political parties because HH - we have different views of wbat is tho H best policy for our government to Hj practice. H All organizations originate and con- H tinue their existence because of some H real or supposed truths they have H adopted as their guide if we except 19 perhaps conspiracies to commit crime. H It is the truth real or presumed j that are advocated by all existing po- H litical parties that keep np their or- H ganizationB, and7 although there are H j .some corrupt pratices sometime in B politics, they are the exception, not E the rule. We never hear of a stump H Bpeaker boast of the corrupt practices 9 of his own party; it is always the H other side who is charged. This proves 9 that we all rely or profess to rely upon HjH r truth and honor. HjH It has been said by some that no H man is better nor worse than his party, 91 but this we cannot accept :The party is 91 an aggregation of persons of all grades H of morals, many practices creep in that H some cannot endorse, but it is safe to Hj eay that any political party or other H organization that hopes to succeed E must have its best men for leaderB, 9 and its platform of principles must be Rj the sentiments of these of its members 9 who have the highest standard of 9 morals, and the best understanding 9 of the principles of (government. IB From these propositions we reduce H the fact tbat every citizen is benefited 9 by joining some political party ; if he is 9 well informed and highly moral he is 9 . bound to be a power in his party and to fl9 , get help in moulding public affairs ac- K f cording to his views of right; if not so 9 well informed, he can gain informa- E , tion, so aB to act more intelligently; if 9 his code ot public morality is of a low H ., grade, he will be likely to ba corrected, 9 and his moral tone elevated, H If good men generally kept out of H politics we should very soon have a H terrible state of society. It is a duty H i every man owes to his country in re- H turn for the protection he gets to ex- B ercise a reasonable amount 'of politi-' 9 cal influenceao aatokoep politics i" 9L ) jjS Tfeing corrupted by political tttcKaters kMMt who are devoid of patriotism, and every- H v good citizen Vho sees his true position j . will carefully study political principles B , and give his honest support to that po- H , litical party that best represents B his views of what is for the welfare of H the whole people. |
