Show 'ONLY A BEGINNER. S. R. TlmrmanJs Record on Capital Location. HOW GRAHAM SHOWSUP As a Selfish Office Seeker Abandoned the Interest of tho Great Majority to Gain a Selfish Personal End His la a Juicy Record Indeed. In a few days The Dispatch shall publish at length whatever there is of the record of Hon. S. E. Thurman, relating re-lating to the location of the capital. That gentlemen, at the requesiTjf this paper, promises to furniBh an authentic authen-tic statement and when the facts are known it will appear his record upon that question, as in every other, is that of a fearless, conscientious representa -tive of the people of Utah. While waiting for the record of Mr. Thurman The Dispatch confesses to a feeling somewhat akin to chuckling delight because of the nomination of of John O. Graham as a candidate for the state legislature. It brings him squarely before the people as an aspirant aspi-rant for office and subjects him to that crncial test by which his lltnes3 for office may be known and understood. He has, through the columns of the Enquirer, opposed Mr. Thurman's candidacy can-didacy for the supreme bench because, as claimed by the Euquirer, Thurman caterad to Salt Lake city and would therefore be an unsafe man on the bench to determine important litigation litiga-tion between Salt Lake and Utah county. How much honesty and good faith there really is in this pretext of Gra ham may be readily understood when we consider that the man whom he would elect in Thurman's Btead is a bonafide resident of Salt Lake city and has already shown in a judicial decision decis-ion what he would do in a case where Salt Lake citv and Utah county people peo-ple are in litigation. This is not intended in-tended as a criticism on Judge iia'rtch for his decision in the Peay caee but Is simply ,a remindej to Provo and Utah county people 3 JEt what kind of a man is before them as a candidate for legislative honors. Indeed it seems strange to us that a man could be a delegate to a convention, jia Srraharn was to the state republican 'convention 'conven-tion and not lift up his voice against the palpable outrage perpetrated by that convention- Zane, iiartch and Miner all residents of Salt Lake city and all comparatively newcomers were nominated by that convention, hands down. Where was Graham then the would-be representative of the south and southern interests? Why did he not then remember that Salt Lake and Utah county have important litigation? liti-gation? Aye more, why did he not remember re-member that the great and overwhelming over-whelming majority of the people of Utah were being left entirely unrepresented unrepre-sented betrayed ignored and absolutely abso-lutely abandoned by this would-be man who in the past has pretended to champion their interests? The great body of the people of Utah for the next five years, if Graham can have his way, will be without representation on the supreme bench of the state of Utah. Of thiB more anon. One further suggestion in line with the aboye. It is claimed by republicans republi-cans that Graham in the state convention conven-tion fought against Provo having any state office, lest, as they believe, it might affect his chances for the nomination nomi-nation he has since obtained. It is a juicy record we are now considering and the eud is not vet. |
