Show Red Light and Clonls Saturday afternoon vast crowds of people most of them little tot3 repaired re-paired to the Lake resort to Sf e Prof Harris the fearless aeronaut make big red light flight into the clouds They were not disappointed At 10 p m after many delays the brave Harris and his beautiful balloon unmoored and soon the amazing and dizzy performance per-formance began The moon had just cleared the summit sum-mit of the Wasatch range and dense shadows lay between the alle and the summits making an appropriate background for the devili colors which Harris flashed against its inky blackness The pale wrinkled lake surface gildd by the moons rays laying softly and peacefully at the feet ot Oquirrh range all went to make up a picture worthy the brush of a great artist As the great machine of canvass swayed gently in the breezes swelling gradu allythe enthusiasm of the little fellows repeatedly broke into enthusiastic cheers At last one little Rhayer shouted Shes off I There she roes All eyes were turned to the machine A great mass of red light enveloped the balloon The fearless aeronaut stood on tne bar below and while slowly ascending handled the lurid light with a masters skill It was one of the most successful ascensions as-censions ever made The machine rose to a height of about 2500 fee and then slowly and majestically descended des-cended lighting out in the lake a qarter of a mile from tbe shore Not the slightest accident occurred during the trip Upon returning to the pavilion Prof Harris received the enthusiastic applause ap-plause of his large audience of both adults and the young He has made himself a great favorite Oi both old and young here this t summer by his courteous courte-ous and gentlemanly demeanor as well as his utter fearlessness He is indeed a gallant fellow There was quite a large crowd at the pavilion and it must have been a profitable profit-able occasion for the polite managers The crowd at the lakeside was very orderly and well behaved The dancing danc-ing was continued until after 11 p mOn m-On the return trip an accidental obstruction compelled the cowd to walk from the railway crossing into town During the walk the excursionists excursion-ists were greatly annoyed by three or four hoodlums who were drunk and behaving be-having in an unseemly way Marshal Knlpht arrested a brace of them and took them to the pen where putting up the money for their ap pearence Monday thev were released |
