liberty theatre on saturday county ily chairman W J lowe called the convention to order and set off the fireworks with a speech that was full of 0 enthusiasm for party victory john F burton of garland was made temporary chairman with A al M hansen of this city as secretary after some more speechmaking by the new chairman the various committees were appointed and a recess was taken upon reassembling the temporary i organization was made permanent and the convention went to work the tooele thoele county delegates to the senatorial convention were present at least beast part of 0 them according to their own statement so the naming of 0 a candidate for state senator was proceeded with mayor john IV peters and attorney B C call were placed in nom nation mayor peters receiving the mac ma c I 1 bority vote and was declared declare ti the e no nominee m the convention call all I 1 announced bounced loun ced the hold holding ing oi ot alie the senatorial I 1 bonien convention at the mose dose of 0 the county convention and later in the day more delegates came up from tooele thoele as well as some more local candidates but in as much as the master had already been disposed ot of nothing was di done about it for state representative C G adney incumbent ot of corinne and N E iverson of 0 tremonton Tre monton were placed in nom nominated bated and the latter won out and was made the nominee for four year A E Ho holmgren lingren ot of bear river and leo hunsaker of honeyville were placed in nomination domination and the former secured a majority mr hunsaker was then placed in ill nomination for the two year com missioner followed by the presentation of the names of john J ji craner of corinne axel Borg borgstrom of thatcher i and eberhardt zundel ot of plymouth mr craner won out on the first ballot P russell wight was named tor county clerk by acclamation but the ity had a number of aspirants former sheriff J H zundel was placed in nomination then deputy sheriff J R olsen was named and then captain k J clinton lilly Lillyw whites hitos name was presented capt lillywhite won von out on the first ballot mrs airs ephraim jensen was named for recorder by acclamation and the nomination tor for assessor w was as contested by assessor lorenzo pett and nathaniel marble of deweyville Dewe mr air pett winning out attorney C R foxley ot of this city was nominated tor for county attorney by acclamation and the drew out the names ot of 11 C carver L W anderson and K C wright wryght mr wright had the distinction of being claimed by both the republicans and democrats and in the balloting that followed the placing of 0 these three names before the convention sir air anderson won out after several rounds the precinct officers named were J frank doering tor for justice of 0 the peace and peter jensen for constable i chairman wm win J lowe was elected to serve tor for another year but a secretary was not named the platform adopted is as follows republican your from page one the splendid prospects of our parties triumph in the coming election in this county state and nation and give hearty endorsement to the republican national and state candidates and platforms and declare as follows 1 we pride ourselves in the magnificent ent record of our party from its inception down to the present time and its record of devoted loyalty to the flag its patriotic support of our free institutions and of its national and industrial du policy which has carried our commerce and flag to far distant lands and advanced our country to a position of first rank along the nations of the world 2 we reaffirm our unyielding devotion to the constitution of the united states and to its guarantees of civil political and religious liberty therein contained and we deplore any attempt to change abrogate or modify the same without first submitting it to the electorate of this nation 3 we applaud the action of the republican united states senators and those patriotic other senators who joined with them in voting down the treaty as submitted to them which would if adopted have robbed our country of its national independence we believe the united states of america is a free and independent nation and should reserve the right to say when and whether it shall take part in foreign wars we stand for an agreement among the nations of the world to preserve the peace of the world but we believe that such an international association must be based upon international justice and must provide methods which shall maintain the rule of public right by the development of law and the decisions of impartial courts and we believe such an association can be formed without in any way jeopardizing our national existence 4 it is liswith with pride that we refer to the splendid record of our senior senator the honorable reed smoot we predict his triumphant reelection election re to the high place he has signally honored by his years of distinguished service 5 we call attention to the present national state and county democratic administration in their wanton wasteful and reckless expenditure of public funds the mountain of public debt now burdening the citizens of this state stands as a dismal and lasting monument of broken promises and democratic incompetence 6 we hold in grateful recollection the memory and deeds of our heroes dead and living the republican party by its legislation has always shown its full purpose to give in ample measure to these heroes the evidence of the nations gratitude arati tude 7 we arraign the state and county administration for their failure to keep their pre election pledges for a reduction of taxes and call attention to the fact that notwithstanding these pledges and their in compromising criticism ol of republican extravagance we are arc today paying the highest taxes ever levied and notwithstanding this fact the state department will close the current year with deficits imaging one million dollars 8 in harmony with the voice of 0 f our people and for the better protection of our homes and families we pledge our candidates to a more rigid enforcement of the law prohibiting the sale and manufacture of intoxicating intoxicate ng liquors 9 we favor for boxelder box elder county the adoption of the budget system it is neither businesslike nor economic to levy taxes and then spend them promiscuously and haphazardly hap and we pledge our nominees to a businesslike efficient and economic budget system 10 the mode of travel today is the public highway in the past the conditions of these highways basteen has bas been a sore trial and disappointment we favor the appointment of an expert engineer as a road commissioner under whose supervision all road work shall be done and moneys expended the crying need in box elder county is the improvement of these channels of commerce and our major and utmost efforts should ie be put forth in the economic improvement of the same we deplore the attitude of our county commissioners in refusing to accede to the wishes of the tax payers thru their representative commercial or in asking that they take such power as the legislature had bad given them to construct more good roads within box elder county we favor the construction of a permanent state road from brigham city thru the bear river valley so as to serve the best interests of a majority of the residents of such valley such road to be located with a view of not only serving thru traffic to idaho but keeping in mind its largest possible use for agricultural ri purposes 11 we favor a bill making of box elder county a senatorial district and we pledge our senator and representative to use all their power to have suc such h bill placed upon our statutes 12 we point with enviable pride to the record and achievements of the republican office holders of this state and county in the past and pledge to the voters that the republicans nominated in this convention today and to be elected
