following principles princi-ples We reaffirm our allegiance to the party principes as set forth iu the national platform adopted at Chicago in June 1892 and we are in hearty accord ac-cord with the territorial platform adopted at Salt Lake city on September Septem-ber 15 1894 We rejoice with the whole people of the territory that Utah is about to enter en-ter the union as a free and soverign state Local selfgovernment is a democratic dem-ocratic principle vouchsafed to us Our party has again demonstrated that the people may be trusted We extend to the demoratic con gree ud president our heartfelt gratitude grat-itude r the many expressions of goodwill good-will to the people of Utah in the passage pas-sage of he liberal enabling act in re fltorinc 0 the Mormon church its confiscated confis-cated p perty in opening the Indian reserv tins for settlement in the wise apjX > jntment of bona fide citizens of Ut > to local offices in the extensive gram > t al for various public purposes frienjM > are in striking contrast to the b fsiiue a accorded Utah by the republican patty JLroudl ve point to the record of our delegate in congress Hon J L Raw line whose uu tiling zeal great ability tact and diplomacy have secured to us so many acts beneficial to Utah His indefatigable labor and unparalleled succes will surely be appioved and rewarded re-warded by his return to congress with a vastly increased majority We further commend the action of the democratic congress and administration administra-tion for the measure of tariff reform effect whereby hundreds of million of dollars will be saved annually to people of this country Obstructed as they were at every move by determined opposition they nevertheless succeeded dn wresting from wealth and plutocracy portion of the paeans of increasing their illgotltn gains and in rendering McKinleyism a lost cause We especially es-pecially endorse the income tax provision pro-vision of the tariff law whereby those most able will be required to hear amore a-more just portion of the burdens of taxation in tne rcpeaimc 01 me leaerat elec rtionlaw and thus securing freedom of Citizens at the polls In revising the pension lists and pension laws so as to prevent spoliation spolia-tion of the public treasury by the undeserving un-deserving while dealing liberally and justly with those who deserve the aid of government It behooves the people of this county and this territory to keep the republican re-publican party out of power It is a partyof broken and post mortem promises prom-ises whose policy prompted by avarice and individual aggrandizement has precipitated the Decent panic and brought this country to the yerge of ruinWe We arraign the recent republican legislature of Utah for its intense partisanship and inefficiency for its attempt to divert the public moneys Irom their legitimate use to the payment pay-ment of bounties to select private enterprises en-terprises Had it not been for the wise I action of the governor more than SSO I 000 would have been taken from the publicachool iuna For its refusal to appropriate sullicient funds for the Insane In-sane Asylum the Agricultural College and the University of Utah by which parsimony those institutions ran only be crrried on as required by law by loans which must be met by the people peo-ple in the future For passing unwise laws and refusing to pass others which would be for the common good We call attention to the efficiency I andhonesty which has marked every department of our present county government 4 rnment Wise economy should rule in eyery branch of public service We believe that competency and fidelity are the only qualification for office We are in favor of home industries We are in favor of the full enfranchisement enfran-chisement of women and pledge ourselves our-selves to use our every effort to the end that our new constitution shall provide for woman suffrage on an equality with men We call upon the people to see to it that the state of Utah shall be founded upon the broad principles of the democratic demo-cratic party which are the principles of juLice and fre overnment Care must be exerc ed hat monopolies shall not get control of the public lands granted to the staLe of Utah and that as far as possible these lands be granted only to the actual settler TPe declare ourselves in favor of the free public school system where the children of the rich and the poor alike may partake freely of the blessings of public instruction We are in favor of the free and unlimited a un-limited coinage of silver at a ratio of 16 to 1 with gold Relying upon the fidelity intelligence and patriotism of the people of Utah count we confidently expect by their votes a complete vindication of the principles
