Show spry chief speaker at rally of republicans 70 7 last saturday evening at the I 1 crescent theatre in this city the ra K publicans held a very interesting rally former governor william spry and walter fitch pitch sr president ot of the chief cons company being the speakers mr fitch pitch presided a the meeting in behalf of the docil republican and in his introduction of the distinguished visitor delivered a very pleasing talk which was liberally applauded and in which he made an earne t plea tor for the endorsement of the R publican candidates by the people of this district mr fitch touched briefly on the tariff issue which has undoubtedly had much to do with saving saying the day for the utan silver lead operators and also called atte attention lillon to constantly growing burdens of taxation mr air fitch s own company this year will pay in state and county taxes the enormous sum suni of and naturally he feels that greater business exper lenco and less politics should be Inject injector el into state and national affairs former governor spry de del livere iverel I 1 ian an excellent political talk in which be he outlined some of the per informed formed and big things done in wash ington during the past few years the benefits which this mining dis brict in tact fact the entire state has ree received elved from the measures were told in detail and while mr spry avoided serious criticism of the democratic administration which preceded that of president harding he could not help but contrast the lavish waste of one with the effort of the other to eliminate esary sary expenses and to bring hf hp country back toward a sate safe sane 1 lind ind conserva conservative the basis briefly he outlined what is being accomplished in that particular part of the na dional government with which he 19 1 associated the nations nation s land office and along the line of economy aie aze being exerted in other branches of th the federal government mr spry stated that he hid had heard about mr pitch s method ol 01 mining which he thought might be termed the fitch idea and he complimented the president of the chief consolidated company on hav bay ing worked out such an equitable and just system dundei which the em is given something more than a daily wage and he predicted that the time would come when various other large corporations of f this country would take similar 0 action if so it would mean the end of labor troubles the end of I 1 W W ism and all the other lams isms that have brought about unrest and trouble between capital and labor mr air spry favors the collection of the money due this country from the foreign governments every cent of it or as much of it as can be collect f ed and those wl 0 heard fals his talk certainly showed by their applause that they were of the same belief ahe he also is opposed to additional bonded indebtedness state tate and na lia lional and favored voting down the proposed amendments to the state constitution for the very good reason that their adoption woul 1 most likely mean heavier taxation and more lavish expenditure of pub lie funds people were urged by mr spry to vote tor for ernest bamberger whose presence in washington will be of vast benefit to all of the state s industries particularly to mining at the beginning of the rally i musical number was given by nell 0 hare and thomas |
