eureka recorder william jackman levan assessor R D gardner eureka surveyor S republicans of juab county had a stormy time of it at their county convention which was held in this city on monday and after nearly a dozen adjournments in an effort to rang bring about a compromise between the different factions seven de dele ae gates from nephi under the leader ship of joseph 11 mcknight botel bokel the convention taase v who remain ed proceeded with the nomination of the ticket as given above some days before the convention took place the people of eureka re I 1 information that there was lack of harmony among the republic cans at nephi when the primary was held in that city it was attended by more than two hundred and the balloting resulted in the election of ten delegates seven of whom were determined to prevent the of william orme a present member ot of the board of county commissioners and thomas 11 burton present county attorney attorney mcknight was the leader of this faction and throughout the afternoon and evening of monday he succeeded in mustering enouen strength from levan mona and mills precincts to prevent the nomi nation of candidates favored by the other delegates finally after a number of ballots had been taken in an effort to nominate a sheriff the convention adjourned until after the political rally which was addressed by congressman don 13 colton previous to the adjournment at six 0 clock in the evening all dele gates had conceded the office of state representative to this end of the county and P C hood was nomi I 1 bated without opposition next in line according to the report of the committee on order of business was tha the naming of a candidate tor for sheriff william boyer of eureka and walter F brough of nephi were nominated the tho latter having the support of the seven delegates from nepal and enough votes from levan mona and mills to give him one halt half ol 01 the votes ot of the convention the I 1 other half beluga f or mr boyer after a number of ballots had failed to break the deadlock the convention adjourned until after the political meeting and on reconvening nang the bal doting continued until twelve t elve ballots had been taken when he delegate from mills changed his vote and made the nomination otar of r boyer possible it was at this point that the me knight faction bolted the con convention antion the county convention w was s pre sided over by dennis wood 01 nephi and P C hood of eureka acted abed as secretary three commett committees es ael aed credential platform ani aul order of business the report of the committee on credentials showed that nephi WAS entitled to 10 delegates eureka levan 2 mona 1 I 1 mills 1 silver City city 1 and I ammoth 1 the platform committee submittal sub mittel the following resolution which ats w is adopted the republican party of juab county utah in convention assembly ed feel that we as a party have reason u to feel proud of the action of the republican officers elected by ua us on the state national and county tickets two years ago we fulla legalize that they have had many try ing problems to solve and feel that with very few exceptions these have been disposed of in a creditable man ner rier and in accordance with the principles of republicanism we endorse the platform recently adopted by the republicans of utah at the state convention in august and with the additions hereto made adopt the same as the platform of the republican party of juab county we heartily endorse the action of the state and congressional conven tion in nominating tor for the vote of the people such men of sterling wor h and ability as ernest bamberger damberger don B colton E 0 leatherwood dr C X jensen and A W cherry we endorse the splendid record of the commissioners of juab county in carrying out the present road gram in this county and tor for the great interest taken by them in alla all their efforts to promote better roads in the county we stand absolutely for the en tor fore cement emerit of law without fear or favor and without regard for the special interests of any particular class or clique and pledge the nomi nees of this convention to these principles we strongly favor retrenchment in the conduct of public business to the end that the present high cost of government may be reduced this the aim of our officials and we pledge the nominees of this convention to such a policy in order that the burdens now being carried by the taxpayers can be reli evol 1 we favor the reduction of wherever possible consistent with the proper development and pro gress of our county we favor the public school system of our county being kept at a high standard as the school system Is ono one of the safeguards of the community and nation while we realize that to maintain these standards it requires sometimes additional taxation yet we feel that our school officials should exercise rigid economy to the end that the public will receive full value for the money expended in conclusion we believe that the well known principles of republican ism fairly and impartially admina ad mini will best develop this counte coun and we otter offer this platform and the nominees of this convention to the voters of juab county firm in the belief that the election of these candidi ates and the principles cm em bodied in this platform will be for the best interest of juab county of 0 which we are all justly proud after the nomination of th the e county ticket the convention pro ceedee with other business dennis wood being named as county chair man and dr N J reese as secretary for the county organization the following well known republicans were chosen tor for the county central committee eureka joseph W leo lee mammoth earl mcintyre silver
