Show fewer mine mme accidents during the past year 0 all those connected with the min ing industry in utah bad had at least one cause tor for joy when the year 1921 came to a close metal prices had been low the coal market had been poor and the entire industry had been hard hit but there was comfort in the tact fact that fewer lives I 1 had been lost and fewer orphans and widows made in proportion to the number of men at work in 1920 there were 4 men employ ed in metal mines and 29 wera were killed for 1921 about 3 men were employed and there were but 9 fatalities in 1920 there were 4 men in the coal mines and the production was 6 tons and there were 37 men killed during 1921 4 men were employed but the number of days worked was less and there were only about 4 tons of coal produced but the number of deaths was 15 which Is a very remarkable improvement in the smelters two were killed last year as against three in 1920 and in the mills there were no deaths whereas there was one tor for the previous year the record for 1921 is one in which every person connected with mining can well take pride greatest credit must be given the miners because on them resolves the responsibility of being careful every minute of the day and every day in the year the operators too have tried to keep their mines sate safe and have installed many safeguards tor for the protection of their employees gratifying progress has also been made toward improving health con dillons in the mines |
