Show new plan to handle juvenile delinquencies county attorney thomas H bur ton was in this district during the week coming here for the purpose of checking up on a law few juvenile vandals of mammoth who recently broke into the school building at that place and defaced the walls and furniture of two or three of the rooms the youngsters were cocat ed and each one separately was gly en a good talking by mr burton he also called the parents of these de together and warned them that if they did not see to it that the vandalism ceased the boys would be taken to the state industrial school the manner in which juveniles have been handled during the past few years has been anything but sat is factory to the majority of the peo pie of this district up until a few months ago we had neither proba tion I officer nor judge and the be bos s were allowed to do pretty much as hey they pleased about a year ago the late charles kryger was put in as probation officer but this did not prove rove very satisfactory because of he the fact that the officer had no au dhority to inflict punishment each time a ca case e appeared in court it was necessary that juvenile judge wil lis ils of provo make a trip into the district and he not being acquaint ed with the boys bos or familiar with their habits was unable to render just punishment mr burton and prof I 1 L wil alamson of the tintic gintic school th dis brict have worked out a plan which is meeting with the endorsement of everyone this plan calls for the ap of a juvenile judge for the tintic gintic district whose duty it shall be to act as judge and inflict punishment on juvenile delin delinquent quen cles and whose salary will be paid by the county the school board and the cities of the tintic gintic district the probation officer work will be done by the marshal and officers of the he various towns in connection with their own work and will be under the direct supervision of the county attorney this plan would be a big saving in expenses over the one which has prevailed during the past few months and would un question ably be a big improvement in the manner in which we handle our ei ring boys |
