Show co commercial miner cial club held meeting last friday 0 last friday evening the commercial club held an interesting ins and enthusiastic meeting at which a number of important matters were up tor for discussion president A E myers presided and among the re ports was one from the committee recently appointed to urge the im mediate construction of sidewalks on main street and church street the tle city officers when the matter was brought to their attention expressed a willingness to proceed with side walk improvements and a com committed mittet is now investigating costs these two sidewalk districts were created last year A dance and banquet is to be given by the club the affair to take place in tha the near nea future this matter is in lu the hands of the entertainment corn com cittee some of the club members also favor a boxing contest as a means of increasing the finances ani ant stirring up interest jack hanson chairman of the sports committee has this matter in charge and will report at the next meeting of the club the committee on transportation and commerce claude baker being chairman called the attention of the club to the tact fact that the freight rate on coal from the eastern utah coal mines to tintic gintic Is greatly in excess of the sum charged tor for haul ing the coal between the mines and salt lake notwithstanding the tact that the haul to Is the shorter of the two there are other ways in which the railroads are bating against the shippers and the transportation committed committee was authorized to prepare a petition 1 tor for presentation to the public cutill i ties commission asking tor for an in vesti gation of freight rates insofar as they effect the mining da D a brict it Is quite certain that such a hearing will result in substantial re dictions duct lons ions in freight charges and that everyone in tintic gintic will be bene fitted i |
