Show 1975 Page 9 The Veterans Resources Clearinghouse was founded in April, 1975 as a joint effort of the Human Resources Agency of the County of San Diego and the Veterans Resources Coalition, a large group of agencies concerned with veteran’s rights and benefits. The rationale for the formation of the December Clearinghouse was simply that there are many agencies serving veterans but there was difficulty in getting the veteran and the agency together. The Clearinghouse functions as an Information and Referral system, doing Research and Planning veterans’ needs. The Legal Aid Society and Clearinghouse is developing a program by which the Legal Aid Society will be able to help veterans with non-benefit discharges to upgrade them to benefit discharges. Another study underway concerns Racism in the Military as Related to Veterans Mental Health and Substance Abuse: prob- lems. This is planned as a five year study. It is expected that this study will be funded by the Department of Health, Education and Welfare.
