Show AROUND THE COUNTY APRIL PAGE SUMMIT COUNTY NEWS 17, 2015 Summit County to celebrate National County Government Month Highlighting transportation at "Summit County Day" Coalville Summit County will celebrate National County Government Month (NCGM) during the month of April to showcase how the county is moving citizens forward through county programs and services. The theme for this year's celebration of NCGM is "Counties Moving America Forward: The Keys are Transportation and Infrastructure." Featured events include a High School "Solutions" contest for 11th and 12th grade students throughout the county, challenging them to address a topic weighing heavily on citizens minds. Specifically, students were asked to come up with a creative solution to address future growth and transportation needs in 500 words or less. Two winners will be selected by County Council and receive cash scholarships. First place will walk away with $250 and second place will receive $150. In addition to the contest, a special "Summit County Day" will be held on Saturday, April 18, showcasing essential county programs and services as it relates to the overall transportation theme. The fun family day is set to take place at Tanger Outlets from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and will feature free food grilled by the Sheriff's Office, prizes, and helpful information for the public. The day will culminate with an awards ceremony for the selected scholarship winners, awards from the Sheriff's Office to the students who helped design the new Sheriff's badge, and a presentation of a $250 shopping spree, courtesy of Tanger Outlets. To be eligible to enter the contest for the shopping spree, you must ride public transit to the event. Each rider will receive a ticket they can exchange for a chance to win the shopping spree and other fun prizes. "The day will be full of fun and exciting events for all ages, along with the opportunity for individuals to engage with their elected leaders," said Julie Booth, Public and Community Affairs. "We encourage all residents to take advantage of National County Government Month events and learn how Summit County can assist you through our programs and services." Since 1991 the National Association of Counties (NACo) has encouraged counties across the country to raise public awareness and understanding about the roles and responsibilities of counties.
