This was the trip they had been looking forward to all year. Three days and two nights full of nothing but FFA? In their opinion, nothing sounded better. That evening at the first session, they all eagerly awaited the Creed Speaking winners to be announced. Both Daniel Stephens and Rachael Richins from North Summit had made it to the final round in the contest earlier that day. As the contest- ants went on stage, the chapter leaned forward in anticipation. To everyone's extreme joy, Rachael was called as the State Creed Speaking winner. Cheers of happiness went up from them all. Later that evening, after the session was over, the Chapter took a trip to Logan Lanes to go have some fun bowling. Early the next morning, Reagan Rees began competing in the Job Interview contest, while Aubrey Staples went to help on the Nominating Committee to help choose the new State Officers. At the second session of State Convention the North Summit Chapter waited anxiously as Aften Ritzman went on stage with the rest of the competitors in the Prepared Public Speaking contest. Everyone looked nervous as they began to read off the winners. Third and second place passed without any hint of Aften's name. Then through the room was read: "And first place is Aften Ritzman from the North Summit FFA chapter." Cheers and happy screams went up from the seating. After the session was over the members receiving their State FFA Degrees went to a special luncheon in their honor. Eating delicious food they had the opportunity to listen to a speaker tell them about how special it was for them to be gaining this prestigious award. During the following session the State FFA Degree was awarded to McKenzie Brown, Nancy Careno, Ben Dixon, Arielle Hunsaker, Elizabeth Mortenson, Daren Richins, Aften Ritzman, and Cheyenne Young. After dinner one more session was held that day. Aubrey Staples won the Star State Award for Small Animal Production and Care. This is an incredible award that takes years of hard work on the Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) project. The members also had the opportunity to listen to a hilarious motivational Keynote speaker. That night North Summit FFA had some incredible fun at the FFA sponsored dance. The next morning there was one final session. Saying goodbye to the retiring State Officers is the saddest part of Convention. They had done such an amazing job and had inspired many FFA members to be better people. After saying goodbye, the new State Officers were installed to their new positions. This year State Convention was exceptionally successful for the North Summit FFA chapter. They gained awards for having a 10% membership increase. As well as gaining the Superior Chapter Award. They will be sending Rachael Richins and Aften Ritzman to compete at National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky in the fall. Eight of their members also were awarded the prestigious State FFA Degree. Congratulations to everyone for being such amazing FFA members and good luck to those moving on to a National level. We are so proud of you! 2014 Wax Museum presented by 85 students Students worked many hours to gather information, make their posters, and create a facsimile of the person they would be representing. The students had their parts memorized, presented themselves in a very professional manner to the visitors and students who attended. This annual event earns funds towards the North Summit Elementary School Arts Program. Go Classifieds! (435) 336-5501/783-1471 Subscribe To The News For life insurance, call a good neighbor.
