See debriefing on Page Al2 As a service to the nearby communities - and to celebrate "100 years of Strength - Performance - Passion - Holcim around the world is "giving" to their neighbors and local communities! As a recipient from this celebration - a new bowery is presently under construction and is situated at the top of the Henefer Cemetery. The bowery, when completed, will have benches on which people may sit and meditate, view the panoramic view of Henefer and Echo, or just get away from the hustle and bustle and relax. The amount of $7,000 was donated to Henefer Town by Holcim in Commemoration of 100 years of world-wide service to communities plus 100 hours of labor to be used as needed by the Town. Pictured with Henefer's Mayor, Randy Ovard is Keith Krugh, Holcim's Plant Manager. Holcim is located at Devil's Slide in Croydon. Holcim has been a community supporter of many neighboring communities in both Summit and Morgan Counties. Cement and monetary donations from Holcim to help these communities have been graciously used to better the communities - most recently honoring Sterling Scholar graduates of North Summit and Morgan high schools. Founded in Switzerland in 1912, Holcim is one of the world's leading suppliers of cement and aggregates (crushed stone, sand and gravel). They also supply ready-mix concrete and asphalt, and provide related services both near and far. Holcim strives to be a valued and reliable partner for all stakeholder groups as well as making major contributions to achieve this goal. They offer training, developing jobs and motivation to achieving a high level of personnel and staff which is an asset to the nearby communities. Safety is of great concern, and they are committed to become a safe environment in which to work, encouraging also good health. Cement and grinding plants, aggregates plants and readymix concrete plants total over 2,000, with now over 82,000 employees, and they are located in around 70 countries. Keith Krugh was pleased with the project at the Henefer Cemetery. "We are happy at Holcim to make it this contribution commemorating the 100 year celebration of world-wide donating." Mayor Lee Snelgrove opened the activities by reading the Arbor Day Proclamation previously passed by the City Council. He also thanked Rocky Mountain Power for donating the trees. Arborist Jason Barto explained that the Japanese Lilac trees that the volunteers planted in front of the Community Center are small, flowering trees that will not impact the power lines, and are not fruit bearing. Armed with shovels, the volunteers quickly dug the holes, planted the trees and covered the bases with mulch. They then proceeded to place mulch around other trees in the park. Mayor Snelgrove expressed his gratitude to the community and noted that this was the second year Francis has participated in the Tree City program. They were enjoyed by those who came to the graveside services on Saturday, and were much appreciated by the Mayor and Henefer Town Council. The two trees will provide much needed shade when fully grown which will add to the comfort and enjoyment of those using the new bowery. Photo by Cheryl Ovard, SCN Editor |
