The Utah ICAC Task Force, which is comprised of 26 federal, state and local police age4ncies, has arrested 22 people during the past two months. Over the past five years they have made a total of 673 arrests while trying to stop "...some of the most evil crimes imaginable... child porn across the Internet..." The Summit County Sheriff's Office is a part of this ICAC Task Force, and as Paul Amann stated, "The Utah ICAC Task Force has been able to stop some of the most evil crimes ...working closely together." Recently Brian Christensen was arrested after a 9year old girl disclosed he had touched her "private parts" and made a video of what happened. With a search warrant investigators of the Utah Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) were able to seize this 34-year old Bountiful man's computer and found videos and photographs documenting the abuse. Christensen, just one of the 2,078 child sexual exploitation cases handled by the Utah ICAC Task Force since 2007, was brought back to Utah to face 8 felony counts of object rape and forcible sex abuse with child. He was sentenced to 25 years to life and 15 years to life in prison consecutively in addition to his 16 and one half years in Arizona on a federal sentence. "Jurisdictional boundaries do not stop the transmission of child pornography across the Internet", stated Amann. "The Utah ICAC Task Force has been able to stop some of the most evil crimes imaginable because state, fe3deral and local law enforcement agencies are working closely to- PAGE A3 gether.' In the past two months 22 people have been arrested, adding to this formidable 673 arrests during the past 5 years! "Real children" are hurt by the creation of sharing of child pornography...images are a permanent record of the abuses... (and) putting an end to it on every level is an ongoing battle but one that the task force is committed to keep fighting." The Utah ICAC has a 99.9% conviction rate - one of the highest in the nation. Utah ICAC Commander Jessica Farnsworth stated that "...one of our...task force (missions) is to reach out to other law enforcement agencies ... (to) create a large network of highly trained investigators..." She threatened to "shoot single (expletive) one of you in the face for doing this to me...because you deserve it" This was received on March 26. Earlier files were charged against her as a follow-up from court employees' calls who stated she allegedly in reference to a 1999 DUI conviction in Summit County. She was located in Salt Lake County, booked into the Summit County Jail on Monday and released after making bail later in the day. There has not yet been a court appearance set for Eaton. STUDENT WRITER: AFTON STEED On Tuesday, April 3, North Summit alumnus Cliff Vernon generously donated one of his beautiful paintings to North Summit High School. The painting is titled "Comanche Summer Camp". Cliff graduated from North Summit in 1946. He started painting and getting involved in art as an elementary school student. The first art project he ever created was a book cover which he painted a dog on. Upon starting high school, Cliff took art Special Olympics... Plan... Statistics from a Yale University study states that 52% of people with intellectual disabilities involved with Special Olympics are getting and holding jobs, while only 10% of that population NOT involved with Special CONTINUED FROM FRONT Development Specialist International Development Group, Parson's Corporation, Washington D.C. has been successful thus far in her career by trying to follow her simple "words of advice" - the second of which follows the first of "create a plan... and being prepared to change the plan...which is "...always surround yourself with people who believe in you and in your dreams don't be around haters!" Melissa included a few (other) "concrete" goals which included: graduate from college, go on a mission and find a husband! With these goals in mind, she completed them one by one...graduated from BYU then went on an LDS mission too Korea - which helped her learn about her home town where she was born (as she was adopted from there at the age of four months), and then... she still has to fulfill The plumber "plungers" Olympics have jobs! Moving with a friend to New York City seemed right for her, and her career and confidence grew - but...her 3rd "words of advice" of "...don't be afraid of failure", soon became a reality - as she met ups and downs in her life as many do. She did find a job, and ended up staying in a career that allowed her to travel the world, met two United States Presidents, gave polio shots to people in India, and turned down an opportunity to work with "Mitt Romney's campaign in 2008 - as I am a Democrat!" Although there were many obstacles in her career and goal searching, she advised the students to remember these "words to live by" ..."make goals and create a plan - the plan is always going to change ...always surround yourself with people who believe in you and support you...and last but not least...don't be afraid of failure!" Following the dinner students were honored one by one with a certificate of achievement from Holcim, presented by Plant Manager Keith Krugh (pictured), and called up by their school's Principals Russ Hendry, North Summit High School and Wade Murdock, Principal Morgan High School. Comments from the two Superintendents, Holmes (NSHS) and Adams (MHS) were then expressed, and Counselors Rhonda Butcher (NSHS) and Linda Morrison and Carol Pentz (MHS) were given a token of appreciation from Holcim. Parents, loved ones, and teachers "...will feel the thrill and excitement when your students are called up at the competition! We congratulate you, students and ...never sell yourself short because you came from small high schools."
