Show Schools Thursday, April 4, 2013 The Gunnison Valley Gazette Boy Scout boat races The Gunnison Valley Boy Scouts, their leaders, and the Gunnison Lions Club met at the Gunnison Pool last Tuesday evening for the annual cardboard boat races. Each Scout Troop constructed a boat out of nothing but cardboard and duct tape. They then raced the boats two lengths of the pool. The Lions Club fed the scouts hot dogs, chips and ice cream sandwiches. ,"mrip . _. ■,. , Page 5 8ULLDOG PRIDE AWARD Congratulations to the following students for being selected to receive the Bulldog Pride Award at GVHS. Nicole Watters is a senior at GVHS. Her plans for the future include college and getting her degree. Just to start things off, she plans to get a business administration/management degree. Her current involvement in school activities includes Student Body Technical Director, drama, Cantus, drill team, and a rigorous schedule. Nicole is the daughter of Sherrie Nielson and Nicole Watters Dan Watters. Sophomore Mc Coy Roberts is currently on the GVHS baseball team and was also involved in football and wrestling this year. He received a leadership award and will be attending the HOBY conference in May. He is looking forward to attending that conference. McCoy hopes to attend college after he graduates. He would like a career in law enMcCoy Roberts forcement. He currently works part time at Gunnison Market. McCoy would like to express his appreciation to all of his coaches throughout the year for their support and guidance to strive to become a better teammate and person. McCoy is the son of Mark and Tami Roberts. Arian Hilton Junior Arian Dawn Hilton is the oldest of five girls and is a great example to her sisters. She strives to get good grades and is respectable and responsible in all that she does. Arian is involved in track and soccer at GVHS. She is interested in obtaining a degree in natural resources. She loves the mountains and enjoys activities such as four-wheeling, hiking, snowboarding, and camping. She also likes to tumble, dance and play sports for fun. Arian is the daughter of Lance and Tracy Hilton. Junior Garrett Sorensen has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout his high school years. He has been on the Seminary Council in the past and is currently involved in FFA. His Diversified Agriculture Production Proficiency Award recently won at State. He has also been involved with the school musicals, including The Music Man and Les Miserables. Garrett Sorensen Garrett is an Eagle Scout. He loves to be outdoors and enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, skiing, and snowmobiling. After graduation, he plans to serve an LDS mission. He also plans on attending Snow College and is thinking of pursuing a career in engineering. Garrett is the son of Kevin and Amy Sorensen. Freshmen McKade Cox loves sports and the outdoors. He has loved wrestling since he was young. This devotion has paid off because he has placed 3rd or better in State for the past 4 years. He also played football this year. McKade has a love for the outdoors. He enjoys hunting, fishing, trapping, and antler gathering. During the seasons he can be found hunting with his dad and brothers on the mountain, or trapping in the valley. He enjoys water-sports; which include skiing, wakeboarding, and scuba diving. He recently earned his Eagle Scout, and has a love for the LDS Gospel where he serves faithfully in his callings. He enjoys being in service of others. He plans on serving a mission and then attending Snow College. He would like to pursue his education in the veterinary field. One day he would like to come back to Gunnison and continue to enjoy the benefits of a living with the mountains as his backyard. McKade is the son of Carl and Sandra Cox. Freshman Rhiley McArthur enjoys being at school, spending time outside, and pretty much all sports. She likes to be with her friends and try new things. She has been involved with tennis and softball this year. Her plans for the future include graduating high school and attending college. She would like to work in the medical field. Right now she is looking into the veterinarian programs at mulRhiley McArthur tiple schools. Rhiley is the daughter of Shannon and Vicki McArthur.
