Show School Thursday, May 10, 2012 The Gunnison Valley Gazette Page 5 Gunnison FFA concludes another great year by ELLI REBER FFA Reporter The Gunnison Valley FFA Chapter had their yearly parent/member awards banquet on Thursday May 3. The FFA showed off all the accomplishments they have achieved this year. The FFA members, as a whole, were awarded 74 cash awards, to the tune of $2,400, which went to excelling students in the FFA program. The night was filled with memories from the past year while hearing from the outgoing seniors as well as looking to the future with new FFA officers being installed. The new FFA officers include Matt Mecham, president; Bo Burrell, vice president; Millie Hammond, secretary; Jennie Otten, treasure; Elli Reber, reporter; Bryce Sorensen, sentinel; and Danielle Boore, historian. American legion send two to Girls State The Gunnison American Legion Post 104 is excited to announce two girls going to Girls State this year. Teirra Akee daughter of Cindy Akee, and McKell Baker daughter of Amy Christensen. The Girls will spend an intensive week of study, working together as self-governing citizens on the campus of Southern Utah University in Cedar City, from June 4th thru June 9th. They will also earn college credit upon completion of the session. The Legion is grateful that these two girls are taking advantage of this lifetime opportunity, and wish them all the best.
