Young Women Award Braylie Tae Peterson Braylie Tae Peterson, of Mayfield, received her Young Women in Excellence award at a ceremony held in the Mayfield Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Braylie accomplished this and isn't even 14 years old yet (May 21). Braylie would like to thank her leaders and advisors in the Young Women's Program in Mayfield for helping her achieve this prestigious honor. Braylie is the daughter of Roger and Hollie Peterson, granddaughter of Christy Dove of Ephraim, and Keith and Ardell Peterson of Gunnison. She is the great-granddaughter of Elma Peterson and the late Melroy Junior Peter- On May 9, 2010, Chesley John Christensen, grandson of the late Chesley Ray Christensen of Mt. Pleasant, received his doctorate in psychology and a masters in statistics from American University in Washington D.C. He obtained a masters in psychology from AU two years ago. He also was honored with one of two awards given each year by American University for Outstanding Scholarship at the Graduate Level. The following is the quote of what was said when he received the award, "Chesley, in just five years you have earned a master's and a doctorate in psychology and another master's in statistics, as well as a remarkable 4.0 cumulative GPA for course work for all three degrees. Awarded the prestigious National Research Service Award from the National Institute of Health, worth about $75,000, you established an important behavioral model for drug addiction. In skillful collaborations with faculty both within and outside of AU (American University), you authored or co-authored five papers that were published in distinguished, peerreviewed journals, including Pharmacology and Behavioral Neuroscience. You have also given many presentations at major conferences in regional, national, and international settings. Despite carrying such heavy academic and research loads, you served as vice president of the psychology department's graduate student council. During that time, you also became a father of two (now three) and continued to remain active in your community as a Boy Scout leader and youth basketball coach. "Chesley, in recognition of your exceptional academic and scholarly accomplishments, we are proud to present you with the University Student Award for Outstanding Scholarship at the Graduate Level." Chesley grew up in Mt. Pleasant. He, along with his wife Tiana and their three small children live in Bethesda, Maryland. He the son of John and Julie Christensen of Mayfield and Shirley and Lloyd Westenskow of Oak City. The groom is the grandson of Lorna Bown of Fayette, and Robert and Nadene Dana of Cokeville, Wy. The bride is the granddaughter of Evah McMullin of Sandy, and Raeline Sirstins of Salt Lake City. The newlyweds will make their home in Gunnison.
