A very happy birthday to a special lady, Bernitta Mecham on June 9th, her 80th birthday. All of her children will honor her with a party at home. Have the best day, Bernitta. The children met their leaders, RaDene Pickett, Loreen Sorensen, Sonia Peterson and Nedra Bowles at the old cabin in the park, which represented Winter Quarters. The children colored pioneer children puppets and then were divided into families. Those who wore orange scarves Expires June 18, 2009 Plump Hot Dogs were part of the Brother and Sister Orange family. Each family had a Flyer wagon and they trekked across the lawn which represented the plains where the groups stopped to hear a pioneer story. The girls made prairie dolls and the boys made whirley gigs. The children sang with leader Sylvia Duke as the “walked and walked.” The group walked to a place called “Independence Rock” where they painted a prayer rock and heard another pioneer story. They crossed the “Sweetwater River,” which was sprinklers in this case. Then it was on to the west side of the park where “Salt Lake City” was and heard another story. Then they headed down south to “Gunnison” for refreshments and to “build their homes,” which was a nail hammering contest.
