THANKS TO THOSE WHO MAKE THIS VALLEY A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE Dear Editor, Thanks to the Fourth of July committee and all the volunteers who made our celebration so successful. I was overcome by all the patriotic support that was shown to our troops, both in the parade and with the display in the park. I did miss the music- All that Jazz and the high school marching band. Hopefully they will be back in the future. Thur July 19 Tuna Salad Puffs Garden Salad Pears Cinnamon Roll Thanks also to the talented Inouye family who shared their time and talents with us. It’s wonderful that we don’t have to travel to New York, Hollywood, Branson or wherever to witness such talent. The program “The Gathering” was an outstanding performance. Mei Li’s book review was very interesting and informative. The Creative Arts Camps for our children and grandchildren was a great learning opportunity for all those who attended. Thursday, July 19, 2007 I am grateful to the Gazette—it’s wonderful to have a home town newspaper that brings the news home. Mark and Jodi are truly “people persons” who cover the interesting events with stories and articles of the people and our community. With appreciation to all the people who make this valley such a great place to live. Summer is a great time to catch up on your reading, and popular author Shirley Bahlmann is happy to offer you something worth curling up with in her two newest books. Hot off the press is “Life is like riding a Unicycle – Fun ways to keep your balance when life gets a little bumpy.” It includes interviews with people just like you who decided to go after their dreams, no matter what their age. This book was inspired by Bahlmann’s own longtime desire to ride a unicycle. “I’ve wanted to ride a unicycle since I was sixteen,” Bahlmann said. “When I turned 47, I realized my life was half over, and I knew I had to give unicycling a heart-felt try.” She eventually accomplished her goal, after a fashion. So if you see a grandma on a unicycle using a pair of broomsticks for balance, just smile and wave, because it’s got to be Bahlmann! By the time you finish this inspiring book, you’ll be ready to skydive or water ski or learn to embroider that pil- Courtesy Photo Author Shirley Bahlmann with her two latest books, Oddly Enough and Life is like riding a unicycle. lowcase you’ve always wanted to. These true stories will ignite your passion and propel you out of your rocking chair. Just in time for Pioneer Day is Bahlmann’s sixth volume in her popular “Odds” true pioneer series, titled “Oddly Enough – Humorous and Touching stories from the olden days.” Bahlmann has drawn from accounts worth re-telling, with adventures as varied as an escaped convict who found a dying woman in the desert, her only hope for survival in returning with him to the people who were hunting him down, to the true story of a thrifty pioneer woman who knitted sweaters for her bare-chested geese. You’ll enjoy losing yourself in the inspiring stories from both books, from modern pioneers breaking through barriers of doubt to follow their hearts to the old-fashioned pioneers who could laugh and cry with the best of us. Bahlmann invites you to visit her website at www.shirleybahlmann.com, and reminds you that stories are magic - they never wear out.
