Show Sports Thursday, January 4, 2007 The Gunnison Valley Gazette Page 6 Rams defeat Bulldogs by MARK HENLINE The Bulldogs played one game over the Christmas break. Last Friday evening they took on the Parowan Rams here in Gunnison. The game was played in front of one of the smallest crowds the Bulldog's have had in a long time. The game started off well for the Dogs as Sam Judd hit a jump shot to start things off. A few plays later, Judd stole the ball and went in for a lay up. He was also fouled on the play and sunk his free throw for an old fashioned three point play. Freshman Derrick Christensen then stole the ball and passed off to Kevin Nay who went in for a lay up and two more points. It was exciting to see the Dogs jump to an early lead but the excitement didn't last as the turnover bug again bit the Bulldogs. The Dogs turned the ball over seven times in the first quarter and they were unable to get any more shots to fall. By the end of the first, the Dogs were down 15-7. The second quarter was almost a carbon copy of the first. The Bulldogs managed to put eight points on the board, but also committed nine more turnovers. The Rams scored twelve in the second and at the half, the Rams were on top 2715. The Dogs didn't make it out of the locker room on time for the half time shoot around but it didn't seem to hurt them as they scored twenty points in the third quarter. The scoring was led by freshman Derrick Christensen who put up eight points in the third. Along with Christensen, Nay had two buckets, Judd scored, Davis scored, and Erick Rosenvall had a bucket. It was good to see the boys work as a team and have the scoring spread around. The fourth quarter was all Rams as they outscored the Bulldogs twenty-three to nine. The Rams hit sixthree pointers in the second half and put the game completely out of reach. At the final buzzer, the scoreboard read Ram 69- Bulldogs 44. This was a disappointing game as it appeared the Bulldogs really matched up well with the Rams. Turnovers again killed the Bulldogs as they committed 27 during the game while only forcing eleven from the Rams. The Rams also hit eight- three point bombs on the night compared with one from the Dogs. The Dogs also had a terrible night from the free throw line shooting 9 for 19 for 47%. Christensen started the game and led the Bulldogs in scoring with 13. Christensen also had a steal and six rebounds. Judd is finally starting to feel better and he looked like his old self this past game. Judd had eleven points to go with seven rebounds and a team leading five steals. The team can sure use Judd's experience and leadership. Nay was solid as always. He led the team in rebounds with nine. He also had two steals and ten points.
