Brenan Jackson, who represented the school board, dropped in on the students with a matching check of $1200. The money raised will help fund edu. cational activities through out the year, including a trip to Clark Planetarium. The sixth grade would like Jrystal Childs/tourtesy, to offer a big "thank you" to 6th graders at the middle school during their Read-A-Thon. all the parents and teachers who made this educational and fun day possible. Two crossing guard "Buddies" were stolen from the elementary school last Wednesday evening. These Buddies help alert traffic that there is a > school crossing present which adds to the safety of the children. The Buddies are also quite expensive at around $80 each to replace. Call Mark at 435-528-5178 Sanpete Challenge The twelfth annual Sanpete Challenge event took place this last Saturday, September 17th. Beginning and ending at the Mayfield Town park, Varsity and Venture age young men competed for the fastest time by participating in eight different challenges, including Frisbee throw, Bow & Arrow Shoot, Mountain Biking, Rifle Shoot, Tomahawk Throw, Repelling, Log Saw, Obstacle Course and Canoeing. A match is carried by each team from beginning to end, and the match must be used to burn a string as the last event of the Challenge. More teams participated this year - fourteen teams - than for at least the last ten years. Teams participating were: Sanpitch Ward, Manti 4th Ward, Mt. Pleasant 2nd Ward, Manti 8th Ward, Manti 6th Ward, Manti 1st Ward, Fountain Green Team 1 and 2, Ephraim 7th Ward, Ephraim 1st Ward, Mt. Pleasant 4th Ward, Gunnison 1st Ward, Centerfield Team and indianola Team. The team with the fastest time and recipient of the first place recognition plaque was the Manti 6th Ward with a time of one hour and 57 minutes. Second and third place honors and plaques went to the Ephraim 1 Ward and Mr. Pleasant 2 Ward teams respectively. Of special note is that no young man was lost or injured on the course this year. With the number of teams participating and some equipment problems on the repelling event, we did have bottlenecking there - we will solve that problem for next year and look forward to another great Challenge. Many thanks are expressed to all who helped with the Challenge and for all the leaders and young men who participated this year.
