Show fullers fullet s earth being mined nil in dragon C cons onse A new now industry the mining fuller s earth has just been launch ed in tintic gintic by F A hebbard who tor for some years was connected with the geological department of one of the large oil companies operating on the pacific coast it Is from the dragon consolidated property that this product is to be taken and while mr hebbard has been working on the proposition for sev several al months month s it was only recently th thay his plans reached such a stage of maturity that he could allow the publication of the story when interviewed this I 1 week he stated that be he bad had secured a lease on the talc deposits at the dragon 0 and that within a very sho short I 1 r time fie expects to be shipping in the neigh boyhood of tons of fuller lu arth each month this output has been contracted tor for by one of at the largest oil companies and it is barely pos sible that a heavier tonnage will be sent out after mr hebbard has had time to more fully develop the dra gon deposits of this material he ile says that fuller s earth with but very little preparation Is used in the refining of mineral oils used tor for lubricating purposes the same ma aerial after more careful crushing treatment is used in preparation of edible oils and mr hebbard ex pacts to put up a crushing plant in this district it plans which he has ha formulated tor for the development of the talc tale deposits in the dragon can be carried out the cost of such a plant will not be high and it would greatly increase the value of the product fullers fuller s earth Is said to be worth from 20 to 25 per ton F 0 B the cars at pacific coast points where such large quantities ot at it is used in oil refining the prepared or crush ed product is worth considerably more A the demand for fuller fullers s earth Is growing rapidly says mr hebbard in 1890 the annual consumption was under 20 tons last year more than tons were used the material is not as clenti ful as many people suppose it is true that there are a number of de pas posits s in a this s country but in most cases the material does not have the bleaching efficiency demanded by the oil concerns which are ing most ot of the fuller s earth that Is being mined the deposit which is being developed at the draa dra gon mine in this district Is the best not only in the west but it equals that ot of florida in act fact it has higher efficiency than the fullers earth of florida or england most of the deposits of this talc tale found in our own country are not being drawn upon by the oil companies for the reason that the talc tale Is of such poor gradel grade that two or three tons are re quiren to do the work done by ton ot of high grade material while the pacific coast oil dis e ricas are the heaviest purchases of fuller 3 earth in the west a large largo amount of it is being used in the casper district in wyoming mr hebbard first visited early in the present year at which time he made a preliminary elamin atlon of the dragon talc tale deposits subjecting the material to the usual tests and finding it to be of excellent grade he ile then caused samples of 0 the fuller a earth to be shipped to one of the largest oil companies of the country and immediately receil ed assurance that it was not marketable but a most desirable product the next step was cecur ing a lease on the deposit then get ting a satisfactory freight rate these mattera matter have been attended to and the freight rate will be effective as soon as the railroads can make the formal publication when the new rate Is effective mr hebbard can commence shipping as the oil corn com pany with which he Is doing bus busi ness Is anxious to get as much of the talc tale as can be mined under existing conditions an output of about tons monthly can be expected within a very short time mining men in all parts of the country will be interested in learn ing that one of the mines Is ready for the production of fuller fullers s earth Is if it really surprising that this district has such a variety of resources in no other section of the west are so many minerals to be found in commercial quantities while this Is primarily a lead silver district our mines mine can be called upon for large quantities of copper an and I 1 gold ore we also have some zinc an almost unlimited supply of iron and considerable manganese truly Is a wonderful mineral section |
