City employee Cliff Keller told the council that it was expensive watering the pots. He said it costs the city about $90 a day to do it, since city employees of duties” with not enough staff and water rates were a little low for the bond funding, causing the bond amount to be a “little short.” Other than that, the representatives didn’t have any negative things to say about the city’s bookkeeping. Resident Leon Day approached the council requesting a power line north of Day Lane be fixed or relocated. He said the line comes across his property by the pond. He said the line went in service in 1980 but became unused, and two years ago a storm took out a pole, leaving the line on the ground ever since. He said it doesn’t have any power. Mayor Benson recommended the city clean it up and Councilman Brad Welch said that couldn’t be done until spring. He suggested Day work on the easements to get it relocated. The council approved renaming 576 North 200 West to Brady Lane, as requested by Leroy Brady. Brady said he would even purchase the street sign. Nancy Mackay, representing the Fairview City History, said the last comprehensive history update for the city’s history was in 1930. She said it was time to update it and would need people to help with the project. The council said they would ask for help via the city’s paper. Resident Lavon Stewart announced that March 1 would be the time to put out the flower pots on State Street. She said that she has had a family who is willing to sponsor one pole By C.R. Truitt Staff writer FAIRVIEW—The Fairview City Council appointed a new Planning Zoning member to take the place of Bob Nielson, who was appointed as fill-in councilman last month for Jonathan Benson, who was appointed as fill-in mayor. Robert St. Jacques was named the new member of the Planning Board and the council also appointed Cliff Wheeler as chairman and Sean Rawlinson as co-chair for the Planning Board. Mayor Benson assigned council duties and recommended Councilman Brad Welch to be the mayor pro tem. He assigned Welch the duties of overseeing the power department and public safety. Councilman Hansen was assigned to buildings, grounds and roads; Councilman Jeff Cox has parks and the cemetery; Councilwoman Julie Anderson will continue with events such as the July 24th and Winterfest events, plus she is also responsible for the Youth City Council (YCC); and new Councilman Bob Nielson was appointed to be responsible for the Planning Board, plus a new responsibility of economic development. Representatives from Larson and Rosenberger gave the city a “clean opinion” with only three findings in the city’s audit review. They said the city had the normal small city “separation Wednesday, January 28, 2009 do the watering. Resident Kelly Dimmick asked the Council (See “Fairview” on A15) Stay close... Go Far.
