Both teams came into the game with big wins from the previous week, Juab having knocked off the No.1 ranked Manti Templars, and the Bulldogs clinching a great victory over American Leadership Academy. Juab got out of the blocks early, making great plays to get first down after first down. Then when the Wasps pulled out a run play Chandler Street marched the ball to the end zone. The point after the touchdown was good. With the score at 7-0 for the Wasps the Bulldogs were really hoping to get their offense moving in the right direction, but failed to do so and were forced to punt. With everything clicking for the Wasps, Seth Owens made a fantastic catch and went 31 yards for the touchdown. With a fierce wind blowing the Wasps were unable to convert the PAT. The first quarter ended with Juab up 13-0. The Bulldogs had the ball to begin the second quarter, but the Wasps’ defense was just too much for the Bulldogs to handle on this run. The Wasps force a fumble and come away with the ball. Juab use the same momentum it had before, and Street ran another touchdown. The game was back and forth for the rest of the second quarter. Wasps were faced with a long third down attempt, and Jake Sorensen of the Bulldogs blasted through the offensive line and sacked the quarterback. The Bulldogs’ offense couldn’t get the momentum it wanted, but the Wasps’ offense could. Ryan Woodward ran a touchdown with only 12 seconds left, and the first half ended with the Bulldogs trailing 25-0. Early in the second half of play it looked like the Bulldogs might mount a comeback. Heston Neal made a great run on the kickoff, taking it all the way to the Juab 20-yard line. But the Bulldogs just couldn’t turn the run into any points. The Wasps showed no mercy for the Bulldogs and pounded another touchdown into the end zone. Once again the Wasps were faced with a fourth-and-long situation, and they decided to go for it. Chandler Street stepped on the gas, blew past the defense and never looked back, making the score 39-0. The fourth quarter went by quickly. The participants were so cold, and they used the mercy rule and let the clock run. Both teams put in their JV squads and the game was uneventful to the end. “It was a hard fought battle, and unfortunately, we fell short to a very talented team,” said Mathew Harris, a senior running back for Gunnison. The Bulldogs will face the highly ranked Manti squad next week in Manti. Wednesday, October 15, 2008 Templars (Continued from B1) Juab and North Summit all in the upper bracket with the Templars in the lower bracket. “Once playoff action begins, all the records go out the window and it’s a one-game Carson (Continued from B1) in Craig, Colo. He was also a supervisor for Morris-Knudsen, the largest construction company in the world, on the masonry work at the U.S. Army base season,” said Mecham. This week the Templars will host Gunnison on Wednesday, and the Bulldogs always save some of their best football of the year for when they play Manti. at Fort Drum in Watertown, and at Attica State Prison. Carson still loves football and still goes four-wheeling, camping and hunting with his children and grandchildren.
