Bee populations almost everywhere are declining dramatically. But the reason is different in Sanpete than elsewhere, says John Scott, the county’s official bee inspector. “We’ve had a hard year. This has been the worst year I’ve seen in the last decade,” Scott said last week during his annual report to the Sanpete County Commission. That same week, an article appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune linking reduced bee populations in Utah with Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), SANPETE MOVIES! It takes money to take someone to court, and I would think as a group we’re probably not going to do that.” Neither does Scott want the incident to raise an issue with the alfalfa farmers who need their fields sprayed. “We want to live in harmony with those farmers who are supporting us in allowing our bees in their alfalfa fields,” Scott said. “Our livelihood is based on alfalfa fields. In no way do we want to diminish them. We’re very much in support of them and what they need to do to protect their alfalfa. This was just a very unfortunate set of circumstances.” Showing Nightly: 6:30 9:00 Saturday Matinee: 3:45 Saturday Matinee: 4:00 TOWNE THEATRE 21 n Main, Ephraim 283-4711 “FOREVER STRONG” - PG-13 Starring: Sean Faris, Gary Cole Showing Nightly: 7:45 Saturday Matinee: 5:15 BASIN DRIVE-IN 680 N.
