Show A10 Sanpete Messenger-Gunnison Valley Edition Wednesday, April 23, 2008 Students seeking histories for Gunnison sesquicentennial By Karen Prisbrey Staff writer GUNNISON—Students at Gunnison Valley Elementary are still collecting histories of the people and events leading up to the settling of this valley for the upcoming centennial/sesquicentennial celebration. “Biographies and pioneer stories are already accumulating and are being edited and prepared for publication,” said Elizabeth Jensen, who is spearheading this program. If you have a story or history relating to settlers (before 1900) in Axtell, Centerfield, Chalk Hill Point, Christianburg, Clarion, Dover, Fayette, Gunnison, Hog Wallow, Mayfield, “The Field” or “The Order” and other places that might have been missed, write them down and take them to the elementary school. The school secretaries or Jensen will make copies of them for you so you can keep the originals to add to your own histories. In cooperation with the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, these histories will be copied in CD form. The project organizers plan for the CDs to be available for distribution later this summer. “Some of the stories that have been submitted are very brief and Baseball (Continued from A6) a grand slam for four more, and Jace Anderson drove in two more with another home run. Shawn Gubeli got the win from the mound. Anderson also drove in two more runs against Richfield, but those two meant something as they came in the eighth inning and sealed the win for the Bulldogs. Jaden Hill put the Bulldogs on top in the second inning with a solo home run, but the Wildcats evened the score in the sixth as pitchers Kevin Nay for the Bulldogs and Jesse Hartle for Richfield battled to keep the other team off the board. Nay only allowed two runs in the contest. In an improvement over the last time the two teams met, the Bulldogs only committed one error. Gunnison committed four in the previous contest. The Bulldogs have two region games left in their schedule, both to be played this week. On Tuesday, Gunnison will travel to Manti (results not available by press time), and on Friday, the Bulldogs will host South Sevier. Manti is fifth in Region 12 with a 2-6 record. Both wins came last week in a double header against the region’s worst team, Grand, with a 1-9-1 record. South Sevier is the sixthplace team in the region with a 2-7 record. South Sevier split a doubleheader with Grand for one of its wins, and beat Manti for the other. Gunnison defeated Manti, 100, on March 11 and handed South Sevier a loss, 11-5, on April 2. Richfield is in a similar situation, hosting fourth-place North Sevier on Tuesday before traveling to Manti a week later to end the region schedule. Richfield beat Manti, 15-5, on April 8 and earned a three-run win over North Sevier, 6-3, on March 25. don’t do justice to the price our ancestors paid to prepare this valley for us today,” Jensen said. “We would like longer and more detailed histories, if possible, on many of these stories.” Histories already gathered include the following: Nephi Anderson, Soren Anderson, Stena P.
