Compiled by Kathy Lin Eggleston MANTI—“Beautiful Manti,” Nora Gabriel sighs, remembering her move to Manti with her husband, Joseph, in 1991. “Manti is so beautiful and quiet.” Just like the sunflowers brought into the living room in one of her poems, Nora survived the fall frost when Joseph, a tool and dye maker from California, passed away in 1999. Like the sunflowers, she also turns her head to the sun and likes to have fun. Nora has built a log cabin in her yard that is known as Nora Ark. Her love of trees has led her to plant many trees, evergreens and flowers to surround it. “It is a calm place for me to write and for visitors to stay,” she said.
