Donators are welcome to give duplicates of DVDs, CDs, tapes and books, since several treatment areas in the hospital need collections. The hospital can use books of all kinds. Children’s books will go to the play areas and waiting rooms and books for adults will go to the Parent’s Recourse room. The hospital will use donated money to purchase DVDs, notebook storage cases and a DVD polisher to keep the DVD collections in good working order. However, says Larsen, “we couldn’t gamble on having an orchestra director. It was an unfortunate thing for [Ondras], but it was necessary to continue a credible strings program.” Larsen also says the music department could have faced accreditation issues without a permanent, full-time strings and orchestra instructor. “We’re happy Libor ’s here,” Larsen says, “but to do anything else would have been irresponsible on our part.” Moving On Although Ondras says he would prefer for things to have worked out differently, he says he doesn’t harbor any bitterness. “Quite the opposite,” he says. “I want to express my gratitude for the college, for President Benson, for my friends and the community,” he says, referring to the support he has received. To support him and his family financially, he says, the college retained his full-time status until the end of the school year, and then put him on sabbatical status—usually reserved for faculty with more tenure than Ondras had—until July 2003, providing him with 50 percent of his salary and full benefits for three months. The college also paid a significant portion of Ondras’ legal fees incurred during the affair. Ondras says he received an outpouring of support from faculty and friends while he was in Slovakia. “I have a folder two inches thick with all the letters people wrote to me. So many people wrote letters that it made this experience special for me, even though it was hard. It opened my eyes.” Ondras says he does not necessarily want to leave Snow. “I love this community,” he says. “I would give my heart to this community and the college.” He says he has employment prospects elsewhere, but declined to disclose where. If Ondras does indeed leave Snow College, he will be missed. Public relations director Pike, expressing confidence that President Benson would echo the sentiment, says, “He proved himself as a terrific instructor and is one of the finest performers you’ll ever hear.” Ê/, \ ◆ >`Ê Ài` Ì¶Ê Ê*À L i tÊ Ê iÞÊ Ü ]Ê ÊÊÊÊÊ Ê Ã } iÀt ◆ ÜÊ/Õ Ì Ê7 Ì Ê >ÃÞÊ > Vit ◆ Õ>À> Ìii`Ê LÊ7 Ì Ê °,°Ê } > `Ê1« Ê ÊÊÊÊÊ-ÕVViÃÃvÕ Ê « iÌ Ê"vÊ"ÕÀÊ/À> } Ý«iÀ i Vi`Ê À ÛiÀÃÊ Ã Ê7i V it nää Î{Î ££n ÜÜܰVÀi } > `° iÌ Up In Step Spice your news with the beat of Sanpete life...
