Show mt fttmuA reporter Friday, Hay 6, 192L Present Juvenile Court Law Is Most Ineffective V In the last Issue of tho Nephl a appeared an article regarding the manner la which Juvenile court eases, are handled under the present taw which makes Juab county u part of a district which embraces two other counties Wasatch and Utah and complaining because there are delays In taking ap the cases against the juvenile offenders. The argument la well taken and It Is surprising that there ere not more complaints. We might Just aa well be without Juvenllo court authorities as to have them living at points eo far away and It appears that the present officers have ao many things to attend to that they will not give prompt attention to even th moat praising juvenllo court work la our part of tho county. Tho Nephl paper cays: Tha present Juvenllo taw la a roaring farce and should bo abolished bag and baggage, unleaa the work can be efficiently administered. If this tats la too poor to provide tha necessary machinery to enforce respect for taw among Juveniles, then It la time to tarn th Job back to the cl tie and counties of Utah. If a county tha also of Jnab, with 10,000 most depend on th population services of a probation officer and to one Judge located seventy-fiv- e hundred miles away, than this paper emphatically demands a change In the present procedure. If the Juvenile officers of this state, who should bo men with actual experience in the handling of boys and girls ere simply choaen to pay off political debts and to fill up the roster of political patronage then we say again there should be a change. Tho whole history of Jnvenll work outside of tho larger dtlee of tho state, with one or two exceptions hue been unsatisfactory. Tha last legislature instead of abolishing the taw, chose tho more easier course of silent strangulation by cutting the appropriation down to th minimum, thus, whatever good there originally was In the taw will now bo lowly stifled through tack of funds to properly function."
