Show Volume XXX Issue VI The Ogden Valley News Page 5 November 1, 2023 Music – Murder – Mayhem - Mystery First Ever Ogden Nordic Ski Swap at Music, murder, mayhem, whodunit will keep you guessing until the end.” Eden’s Community Center/Bowery and mystery… these themes Andrew White stars as musical theatre equipment: skis, boots, poles, and back-country encapsulate this fall’s musical production at Weber High School. “Curtains” will show November 3, 4, 6, 9, 10, 11, and 13 at 7:00 p.m. with a matinee November 11 at 1:00 p.m. Tickets are now on sale at weberhightheatre.com. “Curtains” is a musical mystery comedy with a book by Rupert Holmes, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and music by John Kander, and additional lyrics by Kander and Holmes. Based on the original book and concept of the same name by Peter Stone, the musical is a send-up of backstage murder mystery plots, set in 1959 Boston, Massachusetts, and follows the fallout when Jessica Cranshaw, the supremely untalented star of Robbin’ Hood of the Old West is murdered during her opening night curtain call. It is up to Lt. Frank Cioffi, a police detective who moonlights as a musical theater fan, to save the show, solve the case, and maybe even find love before the show reopens, without getting killed himself. Cioffi also dreams of being in musical theater. Weber High School Theatre Teacher Mark Daniels first saw the show in New York during previews. As a childhood fan of detective stories and everything musical theatre, the play resonated with him. “The script is packed with fantastic jokes, a classic American musical theatre score, and characters you can’t help but root for,” Daniels said. “And just when you think you know who did it, the true aficionado Lieutenant Frank Cioffi and Miette Reis as show-within-a-show “Robbin’ Hood” producer Carmen Bernstein. Fay Warner and Matthew Bolingbroke star as former married lyricist and composer couple Georgia Hendricks and Aaron Fox, Sophie Riggs as understudy Niki Harris, and JC Wangsgard as director Christopher Belling. Additional cast members include Erik Larson as theatre critic Daryl Grady, Isaac Primm as stage manager Johnnie Harmon, Kaasen Sagendorf as “Robbin’ Hood” investor Oscar Shapiro, Bridger Maisey as lead dancer and choreographer, Bobby Pepper and Andi Poll as aspiring dancer Bambi Bernet. Between the cast and crew, over 120 students are involved in the production. “This is an incredible cast and it’s been a true joy to watch every one of them grow as performers over the last few months,” Daniels said. “They have all poured themselves into this show and they really have something wonderful to share with the community.” In 2007, “Curtains” premiered on Broadway starring David Hyde Pierce of Frasier fame. It won eight nominations for Tony awards, including Best Original Score and Best Musical. “This show is not as well known as titles we’ve done the last several years, but it’s such a fun show,” Daniels says. “The combination of a murder mystery with backstage tomfoolery is one that all audiences can enjoy.” Tickets can be purchased at weberhightheatre. com. Since we live in an area that doesn’t have a lot of options for the purchase of cross-country ski gear and knowing that many of us have “stuff” that we don’t use hanging out in our storage areas, Ogden Nordic decided to hold a ski swap! On Saturday, November 4, from noon to 4:00 p.m., we will be at the Eden Community Center bowery in Eden Park (2100 N. 5600 E.). Here’s how it will work: Sellers: From noon to 1:00 p.m., bring your equipment that you want to sell (cross-country gear, if you have that). You will fill out a tag for each item indicating the size and the cost. Ogden Nordic will process all sales and take 10% as a fundraiser. You will receive your portion of the sale at the end of the day (you will indicate how you want to be paid). If you’d like, you can stay on through the afternoon and do a sales pitch for your equipment. Ogden Nordic Ski School experts will be available to give people guidance on their purchases. Buyers: Come by the Eden Community Center between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. and shop for gear!
