Your gift could save a life. Santas Team up to Raise Donations for CFOV & Ogden Rescue Mission Santa is known for bringing joy to children, but on Friday, September 1, a couple of local Santas brought joy to our local nonprofit organizations. Hap Stephens and George Moldenhauer have spent many holiday seasons entertaining families with their Santa look-a-like status. The two friends are avid golfers and cooked up a scheme to leverage their Santa-looks to create a fundraising opportunity for their favorite charities and the “Santa Shoot Out” was born. They asked their friends and fellow golfers to sponsor them in a friendly competition over 18 holes of golf. Contributors were asked to donate funds in increments of $18 with the proceeds to be split between the Community Foundation of Ogden Va l l e y (CFOV) and the Ogden R e s c u e Mission. Dressed in swanky red knickers, argyle socks, and Santa golf shirts, Hap and George Alice Harper with golf balls for were tough to turn sale. down as they pitched to their fellow golfers the need for donations. The charity round netted over $3,000 for the two charities! Hap reluctantly conceded the match to George, but the real winners were CFOV and Ogden Rescue Mission. To add to the bounty raised in the “Santa Shoot Out,” local resident and gifted golfer Alice Harper sold “reclaimed” golf balls that had been lost on the course. She and her husband Randy spent many hours with their beloved dog Rogan on the fringes of the golf course. Being a natural retriever, Rogan loved to hunt for golf balls and was known to bring back a dozen on a single walk. Alice and Randy decided to put those golf balls to good use by selling them and donating the proceeds to CFOV. To date, their sales have netted over $800 and, they still have lots of golf balls to sell!! Hap Stephens of Eden. Thinking of Christmas Gifts? How about a subscription to The Ogden Valley News. The Community Foundation of Ogden Valley (CFOV) has many people and businesses to thank for their contribution to the successful Farm Festival that was held September 8 at Sunnyfield Farm in Eden. Mother Nature cooperated with perfect weather while hundreds of people gathered and visited and enjoyed the food, information, and entertainment. A huge thank you goes to Alan Vause and Sunnyfield Farm. Alan spent countless hours helping CFOV map out, plan, and execute the event and the central location was charming and perfectly quaint again this year. Justin and Tesha Pack of Ogden Valley Homes also made the event possible by providing the genuine, antique farm truck that set the stage for amazing photo opportunities and a backdrop to the fun. Festival attendees could not have gone home hungry after sampling food from Scallywagon, Lucky Slice Pizza and Milk Barn Creamery’s craft ice cream. Eden’s Yellow Rose, the local band that created the downhome sound and mood of the night, was a hit again this year. CFOV is so grateful for their willingness to perform for the community pro bono. They made the event the fun night it was for everyone. CFOV’s main fundraiser again this year was an opportunity drawing that was coordinated by board member Beth Mannino and contributed to by many Ogden Valley businesses. Tickets were sold all summer with a “teaser” drawing for a kayak in June. The big drawing happened at the Farm Festival. We were able to raise over $7,000—all supporting our Matching Fund. CFOV raises money and awareness for 15 nonprofit organizations (NPOs) in the valley. Thank you to the following businesses that donated prizes that enticed our ticket buyers: Snowbasin, Powder Mountain, Biker’s Edge, Club Rec, Eden Washworks, Emie James, Free Spirit Massage, Compass Rose Lodge, Shooting Star, Simply Eden, Sunnyfield Farm, Valley Hair, Carlos & Harley’s, IDK BBQ, MK Power Sports, Green Haus Art Gallery, Imagine Music, The Drip, Pop & Nan’s Wood Creations, Artisan Breads, Mountain Born Creamery, Wild Turkey Lodge Bed & Breakfast, and Wolf Creek. Many of the nonprofit organizations supported by CFOV had booths at the Farm Fest with activities. Festival attendees took photos with the gorgeous spotted appaloosa named Spot, brought again this year by Backcountry Horsemen. Some folks tried their skills at the Boy Scouts’ archery range and on Ogden Nordic’s Nordic track ski machines, among others. Ogden Valley is always grateful for our firefighters and EMTs, but CFOV wants to give a special shoutout to the crews on duty that evening who came and helped ensure a safe event by being on hand if needed. Finally, thanks to CFOV’s Event Team. Kim Best, and her vision, led the board members who worked hard to create a successful 2nd annual festival. We hope that in the coming years we can continue to learn and improve and provide the same fun event that transpired September 8. One of the best parts of working on the Community Foundation board is that each board member does their share and helps in various ways.
