Also performing that night will be Ophir Creek, a local group whose music is characterized as high-energy “Folkgrass” Americana. According to their mission statement, “Excellence in the Community brings Utah’s best musicians to diverse communities through free concerts. By providing more and better performance opportunities for Utah’s talented artists, we enhance the quality of life in our communities and weave their achievements into the fabric of Utah culture. Our high-quality musical experiences are available to people of all ages, economic demographics, and walks of life, strengthening communities and honoring accomplishments. St. Florence Announces 19th-annual Pet Blessing & Food Drive St. Francis of Assisi (1181 ~ Oct. 3, 1226) is the patron saint of ecology and animals. He abandoned a life of luxury to live a life in poverty. He rebuilt the Christian church and founded the Franciscan order. He loved all creatures and is known to have even preached to the birds. In celebration of the Feast Day of St. Francis, St. Florence Catholic Church in Huntsville will hold a blessing of the animals on Wednesday, October 4 at 6:00 p.m. in the church parking lot. Father Joshua Santos or Fr. Victor Alvarado-Renderos will officiate. The first Wednesday of every month is a healing mass at St. Florence so humans attending will also receive a special blessing at the 5:30 p.m. Mass on October 4. If you would like to attend the Mass and also bring your pets for the blessing, we will have “pet sitting” avail- able outside of the “little white church” located at 6461 UT-39 in Huntsville. Throughout the month of October, St. Florence Church asks you to “Be a Blessing for a Pet” by donating dog and cat food (dry and canned), kitty litter, and pet treats. There will be a collection bin in the back of the church from October 1 through October 31 for people to drop off donations during church hours. Items will be given to the Lantern House Homeless Shelter and Catholic Community Services Food Pantry. Weber Communities That Care (CTC) is sponsoring our amazing guest speaker this year, Alex Boye. We are so excited for his message in both music and the spoken word. Alex Boye will be the featured guest at Weber High School October 3 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the school’s auditorium. Join us as award-winning artist and year at the Egyptian Theater in Ogden. Although m a n y are performed in Ophir Creek Salt Lake City at the Gallivan Center, Jeff has a love for Ogden, and we are thrilled to partner with him and be able to share some of the amazing groups that perform monthly at the Gandy Dancer. Jeff’s goal, and ours, is to provide free highquality, local music to young and old, exposing them to the incredible talent of this area! Also, our goal is to fill the eight-hundred seats at Peery’s Egyptian theater!
