A beloved Gloria Meyers mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, sister, and aunt, Gloria was born in Ogden, Utah on August 12, 1931 to Darrell and Mabel Jorgensen. She was a spirited woman, known for her feisty resilience and ambition, focused on faith and family. She was raised in Ogden and Smithfield and graduated from Weber High School. Gloria married Richard E. Myers December 20, 1952 in the St. George LDS Temple. They built a beautiful life together, a testament of a love that could withstand any storm, until Richard preceded her in death March 8, 2017. Together, Gloria and Richard lived the American dream. They humbly began their lives together with nothing. Yet, they had a fierce determination to be the best they could be. They always worked very hard, sacrificed, scrimped, and lived on the strictest of budgets. By doing so, Gloria supported Richard by growing and establishing Myers Mortuary. She also supported Richard in his many leadership roles in the church, our community, and the National Funeral Directors Association. Gloria and Richard founded the “Good Grief” program, a self-help group for widowed and grieving individuals. The program was nationally recognized for being one of the first of its kind in the United States. Gloria directed Good Grief for 17 years. She was one of the founding members of Hospice of Northern Utah, the first hospice organization to serve the Northern Utah area. She served on many community boards and organizations. She received the Governor’s Silver Bowl Award for Outstanding Volunteer service in the State of Utah. Gloria and Richard were the Grand Marshalls for Ogden Pioneer Days, and they received the Wall of Fame Award from the Ogden/Weber Chamber of Commerce for community involvement. After she raised her children, Gloria graduated from Weber State University with a degree in Gerontology. She was employed by the Weber County Department of Aging and was instrumental in establishing the Senior Companion program. She later served as the executive director of the Golden Hours Senior Citizen Center in Ogden. Gloria was a beacon of strength and determination, touching many lives with her tenacity and the joy she radiated. She was a gutsy woman who stood firm in her beliefs, and for better or worse, she fought for perfection in everything. She always strived to have her voice heard and to make a positive impact. A devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gloria’s faith was her guiding light. She served diligently as a Relief Society President, Young Women’s leader, and for many years, she traveled to many universities throughout the Intermountain west as the Church’s Area Advisor for Lamba Delta Sigma Sorority. Her life’s work was a living embodiment of the scripture “… when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.” Gloria always had a deep concern for her “children,” which were her grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and other children she knew and had met. She prayed for them every night. Gloria is survived by her son, Shaun (Christina) Myers; a daughter-in-law, Suzanne Myers; her dearly loved grandchildren: Matthew, Marcus, and Scott Myers, Kjerstin (Clark) Brinton, Katarina (Jace) Nelson, Zackary Myers, Daniel (Heidi) Myers, Thomas Myers, and Zack Brown; 13 cherished great-grandchildren; her beloved brothers, Gary Jorgensen, Brian (LaBina) Jorgensen, Brent (Betty) Jorgensen, Dennis (Sarah) Gilmore, and Arthur (Sandy) Gilmore; and many loved nieces and nephews. Gloria’s legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone she interacted with, as well as those she served throughout her lifetime. As she passed through the veil of mortality, she was greeted by her beloved husband, Richard; a son, Greg Myers; a daughter, Teri Myers Brown; a granddaughter, Annika Myers; her parents, Mabel, Darrell, and Annette Jorgensen; a sister, Marjorie Martin; and a brother, Darrell Lloyd Jorgensen, all of whom preceded her in death. A heartfelt thanks to Ange Wood, a cherished friend and faithful caregiver. Funeral services were held Friday, September 1, 2023 at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. Ogden, Utah. He grew up and spent most of his early life in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He had a very close and loving relationship with his sister and brother. He graduated from Bonneville High School in Idaho Falls. His family moved several times then set up home in Ogden, Utah where he attended Weber State College. He was married to Carol Huff for 22 years. Together they raised three exceptional sons: Gregory, Jeffery, and Christopher. He was a devoted, strict, proud, and loving father. He joined the Utah National Guard, where he met an Ogden City firefighter who convinced him to become a firefighter. He was hired by Ogden City Fire Department in March 1969, where he worked and was promoted through the ranks to retire as a Battalion Chief in 1999. He truly loved his profession and the camaraderie of his fellow firefighters and considered himself extremely fortunate to have followed this career path. He developed several close friendships that continued through his life. He married Kerry Call Fausett in 1990. They made their home in Eden, Utah where he used his considerable talents as a carpenter, painter, and gardener to transform their home into a beautiful peaceful forest retreat. He gained a precious stepdaughter, Tina Fausett Berger, with their marriage. He and Kerry were able to enjoy many shared activities such as skiing, fishing, golfing, camping, and traveling. They were both able to retire in 1999, which opened the door to more activities and adventures. They traveled extensively by motorhome with a group of firefighter friends and their wives, visiting all the western states; many national parks; the Albuquerque balloon festival; Calgary, Canada stampede; Alaska; and Mexico. If anyone in the group wanted to see something, they all packed up and went. They also went on several cruises and became snowbirds in Yuma, Arizona.
