Show Page 6 The Ogden Valley News Volume XXX Issue XII September 1, 2023 Announcements Obituaries Richard (Rick) Jensen July 20, 1952 ~ August 15, 2023 Richard (Rick) Hill Jensen, 71, passed away in Brigham City, Utah, August 15, 2023, from longstanding health comRichard Jensen plications. Rick was born July 20, 1952 in Ogden, Utah to Keith Grow Jensen and Lula Hill Jensen. He graduated from Weber High School in 1970 where he played football and was the senior class president. Following high school, he did a stint in the Air Force Reserves and thereafter served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Canada Ontario Mission. Rick married Melanie Stephens March 14, 1974 in the Ogden Utah Temple. They settled in Huntsville, Utah, and participated for over twenty-five years in a dairy and crop farming enterprise with Rick’s father and other family members. Rick was highly intelligent with an infallible memory. He managed the dairy herd of over 350 cows and knew the ID number and breeding date of each cow. He loved farm life and the opportunity to work with his children. He often regaled them with fictional stories of his athletic prowess as a Weber State Cheerleader, gymnast, ballerina, and ice skater. When difficult economic times came for the dairy industry in 1987, and the dairy cows were sold, Rick returned to school and obtained a degree at Weber State University as a respiratory therapist. He worked in the Ogden Regional and McKay-Dee hospitals for several years in their NICU wards and emergency rooms. Because of health challenges, Rick retired in 2001 and moved to Washinton Utah until 2013. During that time, Melanie and Rick T. Allen Davies June 7, 1951 ~ August 14, 2023 Thomas Allen Davies left this world August 14, 2023, surrounded by the love and cherished memories of his family. Art D. and Lois Sharp Davies welcomed him to T. Allen Davies the world on June 7, 1951. Allen was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who touched the lives of many. Allen married Paula Parkinson. They were blessed with two sons, Mike Davies (Lori) and Matt Davies (Mandie). They later divorced. Allen met and married his new-found love, Sharon Story Hart, adding three sons: Chris Hart, Rob Hart (Misty), and Scott Hart (Kristin). Later the family added a daughter, Madison (Tristan Loomis) Davies. This blended family was a testament to his capacity for love and unity. Allen was a proud patriarch and his legacy shines through the 21 grandkids he adored, and he held close to his heart. His joy multiplied with the arrival of three great-grandchildren and with the promise of another on the way. His heart was extended to several bonus grandchildren that he loved as his own. As he returns to his Heavenly Father, Allen 37 were the chief care givers for Rick’s special needs older brother, Gary. Rick also became an avid gardener and chicken raiser, avocations he continued to pursue when he and Melanie moved to Honeyville, Utah, where they lived from 2014 to 2022. Service in the LDS Church was important to Rick. He served as an elders quorum president, stake mission president, high councilor, and as a beloved gospel doctrine Sunday School teacher. In the last decade of his life, he became a skilled genealogist and worked as a consultant in the Family Search organization. He identified and saw that temple work was performed for scores of his and others’ ancestors. Rick is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Melanie Stephens Jensen, and seven children: Aimee (Zach) Larkin, Lacey (Greg) Calvert, Ashlee (Matt) Neill, Cassie (Chris) Lindberg, Natalie (Dustin) Hall, Marissa (Scott) Carlile, and Spencer (Alfonsina) Jensen; twenty-six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his siblings: Gary Jensen, Marlin (Kathleen) Jensen, and Patti (Lon) Child. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Christian R. Jensen; a granddaughter, Josephine Calvert; and a son-in-law, Richard Malan. Rick’s family wishes to express sincere appreciation to Tender Care Home Health and Hospice workers Rob Phelps and Steve Evans, and the staff at Sandstone Pioneer Trail skilled nursing facility in Brigham City, Utah where Rick spent the last two years of his life. Funeral services were held Saturday, August 19, 2023 in the LDS chapel located at 250 S. 7400 E. in Huntsville, Utah. A viewing was held at the chapel prior to the services. Burial at the Huntsville Cemetery as directed by Myers Ogden Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Humanitarian or Missionary Funds of the LDS Church. Funeral services were held Saturday, August 19, 2023 at the Huntsville Utah Stake Center, 6450 E. 1900 N. Eden, Utah. Prior to the service the family met and greeted friends and family. As per Allen’s wishes he was cremated, so there will not be an interment at this time. In lieu of flowers, gather your family close to you, take them to the movies, eat lots of popcorn, go on long rides, have cookouts, and build memories while you still have time. CHECK OUT OUR FACEBOOK PAGE Robert E. VanScoyk July 13, 1939 ~ August 6, 2023 Robert E. VanScoyk, 84, entered upon his new life on August 6, 2023 after a brief illness. Born July 13, 1939, Robert VanScoyk he was raised in Fairview, Wyoming. Robert was the oldest of Eddie and Dale VanScoyk’s three children. His sister Bertha and brother Johnny preceded him in death. After marriage to his wife Mary Louise Griswold in the Seychelles Islands, they made their home in Eden, Utah. Robert is survived by his daughters Robyn (Eric) Kondo, their son Zachery Kondo, and daughter Alyssa Kondo—all of California; and Megan VanScoyk of New Mexico; and a large family of nieces, nephews, and cousins who fondly remember “Uncle Bob” sharing his love of the outdoors and towing the hay wagon at family reunions. A graduate of Afton High School, Rob tried his hand at a few odd jobs, then joined the Air Joyce Fuller Geddes August 5, 1949 ~ August 13, 2023 Joyce Fuller Geddes (74), devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully August 13, 2023 after a long, hard-fought battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born August 5, 1949 in Ogden, Utah to Clyde Norman Fuller and Ruth Garner Fuller. She continually lived up to her name, bringing “joy” and smiles to all who knew her. She grew up attending Ogden City schools and graduated from Ogden High School. During this time, she developed a passion and gift for sewing and grew into a talented seamstress, learning much of what she knew from her mother. Joyce’s first job was at Utah Tailoring Mills where she worked as a seamstress, sewing custom dresses, and thoroughly enjoying working with different fabrics and styles. She continued sewing throughout her life, sharing her skills and talents with so many as she altered, sewed, and crafted clothes, pajamas, doll clothes, and quilts for her children and grandchildren. After high school, she met and fell in love with John Geddes. They were married October 6, 1967 in the Logan LDS temple and shared 56 beautiful years together. They were blessed with four children: Michele Lynn, Melanie Kay, Michael (stillborn), and Adam John. Joyce loved her children fiercely and dedicated her life to their care, creating many beautiful mem- Force where he began his love for electronics and computers. After his tour of duty, he worked for Philco Ford, applying the technical skills he learned working in Greenland, Seychelles (where he and Mary wed), then New Hampshire. He and Mary then moved to Utah where he began his civilian career at Hill Air Force Base and remained until his retirement. Rob and Mary shared an enthusiasm for outdoor activities, traveling all over the western states, including Alaska. Family, friends, and fishing were almost always a part of the outings, whether it was camping, horseback riding, snowmobiling, or just a day trip to a nearby lake or stream. Rob was quiet and had a big heart. He was devoted to his family, his church, and many friends. In his later years, he kept busy with Ham Radio, the local TV station transmitter, providing free TV to the Valley, and helping anyone who asked. He will be fondly remembered by this large group of friends. Funeral services celebrating Robert’s life were held Friday, August 18, 2023 at the Eden 1st Ward, 6500 E. 1900 N. in Eden, Utah. She was also a devoted grandma who loved spending time with her grandchildren. She cherished time spent playing, crafting, baking, and attending concerts and sporting events to watch them perform. She had a deep love for her children and grandchildren. Her words, “I Love You to the Moon and Back” will forever be stamped into our hearts. Joyce was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Throughout her life, she served in many positions throughout the church in Primary, Young Womens, and Relief Society. She and John also served a short mission at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building on Temple Square where they loved giving tours, sharing their testimonies, and meeting people from all over the world. Joyce had a strong testimony of the gospel and of our Savior Jesus Christ. She will be remembered as saying quite often, “The blessings of heaven are right here in this room.” She is survived by her husband, John Geddes, and children Michele (Alan) Crook, Melanie (Chuck) Elliott, and Adam (Tallie) Geddes; as well as all her precious grandchildren, Kody (Aubrey) Crook, Colton (Mariah) Elliott, Shaylen Crook, Sean Elliott, Hunter Elliott, Hannah Elliott, Jessa Geddes, Jace Geddes, Owen Geddes, and Avree Geddes; as well as three great-grandchildren, Haven, Jed, and Mack. She also is survived by her sister Leilani Grange and brother Gary Fuller. Special thanks to the Gables Assisted Living Center and Aegis Hospice and their marvelous staff. Funeral services were held Monday, August 21, 2023 with a viewing prior to services at the Farr West Poplar Stake Center, 1745 N. 2300 W., Farr West, Utah. Interment at Eden Mountain View Cemetery.
