Goodson was awarded “Best of Show” with his painting “Plastic Yoyo’s and Tops” in the prestigious Eccles Art Center’s 49th juried Annual Statewide Competition. Goodson is dedicated to pushing artistic boundaries, and captivating audiences through his creative expressions. With a keen eye for detail, he has an innate ability to infuse emotion into his works. There was an impressive array of submissions, truly beautiful works of art. Goodson stated that he felt it a great honor to be in this splendid show among such gifted artists. This “ Best of Show” recognition is a testament to Goodson’s mastery of his craft and his remarkable ability to capture the essence of his subject matter. His piece showcases his realistic style, intricate details, and evocative storytell- ing. Mark’s art always has a story. Mark’s piece was also selected as one of the works of art for the Art in Bloom Competition, wherein local florists create interpretive flower arrangements, designed to go with the chosen works of art from the Statewide exhibit. Also check out his website at markbgoodson.com or contact him at 801-564-4585 or mbgfineart@gmail.com. “Fall Into Florals” Returns to Eccles Art Center This September, “Fall into Florals” returns to the Eccles Art Center 2580 Jefferson Avenue, Ogden as a competitive exhibit open to resident Utah artists and photographers working with floral concepts. The Carriage House Gallery will feature the work of Orem, Utah artist Rick Shorten. A reception for the artists and the public is scheduled in association with Ogden’s Art Stroll on Friday, September 8, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Main Gallery will be blooming with Fall into Floral concepts. The art center staff is always surprised with the variety and the scope of ideas our Utah artist have to share in a competitive exhibit. We anticipate we will be overflowing with blossoms of all colors. Awards will be posted at the Friday Art Stroll reception. A virtual tour will be upload to the center’s website ogden4arts.org the following week for those unable to visit the center’s galleries. Using the “Fall into Floral” exhibit for inspiration, the art center’s Seniors’ Create workshop on September 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. will paint and frame 5 x 7 watercolor still life paintings. Pre-registration is requested and may be accomplished online at ogden4arts.org or by calling a member of the art center staff at 801392-6935. The tuition of $10 includes supplies. Class size is limited. Rick Shorten has competed in a number of the Eccles Art Center’s competitive exhibits. The EAC staff was pleased to invite him to exhibit his work in the Carriage House Gallery during September. Rick states, “I like to explore symbolic representations of the relationships between people as couples or families or friends, also the relationship between those in heaven and those here on earth.” Shorten’s work is represented in a number of galleries in Orem, Utah. The Eccles Art Center regular gallery hours are Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The art center will be closed September 4 for Labor Day. Northern Utah Trailfest Returns to North Fork Park October 6–8 The Northern Utah Trailfest lineup is still to be announced. (The NUT) is a fall festival for all trail users held on the first weekend of October. This annual event takes place while fall colors are on full display at North Fork Park’s Cutler Flats located in Eden, Utah. The NUT offers competitive trail running and mountain biking events, weekend camping, and a free-to-attend festival aimed at bringing trail users of all ages and abilities together in celebration of the trails. Runners, hikers, and mountain bikers— beginners and seasoned athletes alike—will enjoy the challenge of the second annual NUT Trail Run and Mountain Bike Race held Saturday, October 7 as they compete to complete the most course laps in 3, 6, or 9* hours. Finishers will celebrate alongside festival attendees during the free concert following the race. The musical NUT also offers free nature-inspired activities and educational opportunities for all ages during the event—live music, guided hikes, naturalist speakers, poetry readings, stargazing, yoga, youth activities, vendors, food trucks, and more. A full festival schedule will be announced in the coming weeks on the event’s website. Camp for the weekend with family and friends or spend a day in nature as trail users of all ages and abilities come together to experience the beauty of fall and celebrate the trails at the Northern Utah Trailfest October 6–8. This event is co-produced by GOAL Foundation and Trails Foundation of Northern Utah, in partnership with Weber County Parks and Recreation. Community Foundation of Ogden Valley (CFOV) is sponsoring a free community celebration Friday, September 8 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Sunnyfield Farm in Eden. The festival will feature games and activities for the entire family. Relax with your neighbors while listening to the homegrown, smooth stylings of Eden’s Yellow Rose as they perform familiar and classic hits. Make an evening of it and enjoy pizza from Lucky Slice or burgers and other treats from the Scallywag Grill. The Drip will also be on hand with beverages to complement your meal There will be farm-fresh vendors like Iris & Emily, Milk Barn Creamery, Ogden Valley Sweets, Patio Springs Gardens, Fresh Simple Greens, Misfit Mushrooms and Plant Candy. The Sunnyfield Farm Store will be open and will offer their great products—beef, eggs, sausage, and honey. You may also visit local favorite businesses Emie James, and Simply Eden who will be represented on-site. The Farm Festival will also offer another chance to support the Community Foundation of Ogden Valley by purchasing tickets in their Opportunity Drawing.
