Letters to the Editor Please Make Sure Your Vent Pipes Aren’t Covered in Snow! Please alert those you know to check their roof’s vent pipes to ensure they aren’t covered by snow or broken off from a slide. A family recently had a carbon monoxide scare because the snow slipped and covered their vent pipe. Thanks to our wonderful first responders who showed up when called! Lives were saved by having detectors that all went off and these 911 responders telling everyone to get out of the house. These first responders made sure things were cleared and safe before the family returned into the home. Roberta Blain, Eden Ogden Valley Incorporation Feasibility Study E昀昀ort Progresses An incorporation feasibility request has been submitted by residents of Ogden Valley to the State of Utah’s Lieutenant Governor’s office in accordance with Utah Code Section 10-2a, Incorporation of a Municipality. As part of the process, State Law requires that the lieutenant governor mail a written notice of the proposed incorporation to owners of each land parcel and those within 300 feet of the boundaries of the proposed area to be incorporated. As members of the Ogden Valley Incorporation Feasibility Study committee, we are asking that you consider the benefits of being part of the proposed incorporated municipality. We are striving to build an inclusive community dedicated to a unique quality of life based on our historic core values and tra- ditional rural community character. We plan to approach community challenges through active collaboration and public engagement, accommodating growth in a sustainable way that maintains our rural complexion while enabling those who live and work here to thrive. To achieve this, an effort has been put forward allowing Ogden Valley to become its own municipality, a self-governing political subdivision of the state, with a governing body elected by local residents. The proposed boundaries include most of the valley floor and surrounding hillsides. For a map of these boundaries and additional information regarding the incorporation process, including the upcoming feasibility study by a state-appointed third party, please visit Facebook page (Ogden Valley Incorporation) or send an email to OVIncorporation@gmail.com. Also, a community meeting to discuss the incorporation proposal has been scheduled for February 28 at 6:00 p.m. at the Ogden Valley Branch Library in Huntsville Town, which you are invited and encouraged to attend. After receiving your letter from the Lt. Governor’s office, no response is required unless you have a desire to opt out of having your property located within the boundaries of the newly proposed municipality. For more information or questions, email ovincorporation@gmail.com or call 801-7450445. Thank you for your support. Why? On behalf of EmieJames, she wanted to say “thank you” to Valley Pharmacy for making a difference for good in the community. Local Valley pharmacy owner Carter Musgrave was nominated during EmieJames’ recent Holiday Giving event. Regarding Musgrave, Pack noted, “He is such a great pharmacist. He’s always ready to help with a smile and all kinds of knowledge. He’s the kind of guy you trust. I can always call Carter with any health or medicine question, and he is so nice and helpful. Plus, I never feel like a bug to him. He’s the best!” Thanks, Carter, for making the Valley a better place. Your service and expertise are much appreciated. Utah Red Cross Accepting Applications for Summer Leadership Camp The American Red Cross of Utah is accepting applications for its 2023 Summer Leadership Development Camp for high school students. The camp is held June 26-30. The five-day overnight camp is designed to train and empower future humanitarian leaders throughout Utah. Red Cross Leadership Development Camp is in its 13th year and will bring together 80 Utah high school students at Camp Pinecliff near Coalville, Utah. For five days, these young Utahns build confidence and cultivate core leadership skills, such as teamwork, public speaking, and diversity/ cultural understanding. These skills can be applied on school campuses and later in life. The Red Cross is invested in training the next generation of compassionate community leaders, giving them the development tools they will need. “We understand the importance of nurturing strong, capable individuals to guide businesses, organizations, and govern- ments,” said Heidi Ruster, Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross Utah/ Nevada Region. “That’s why we are committed to providing young people with the resources they need to become tomorrow’s leaders.” Red Cross of Utah Leadership Development Camp - The overnight camp is for local students currently in the 9th, 10th, or 11th grade or the home school equivalent. The cost of the nonprofit camp is $300 and includes cabin lodging at Camp Pinecliff, meals, and materials. A reduced rate is available for those who qualify. Throughout the week, Red Cross youth volunteers and staff members will hold sessions and activities that reinforce individual and team leadership skills. “Students should return from the conference stronger and better equipped to embrace the diversity of those around them,” Ruster said. “Participants also form friendships that can last a lifetime; and moreover, they should have skills that can help them become leaders who make a difference in their schools and communities.” For more information, visit redcross.org/LDC or contact our Volunteer Services Team at UTNV.
