Miners lose 2-0 in possible final game of the season RYAN KOSTECKA The Park Record It was a somber mood on Thursday afternoon as the Park City High School boys soccer team walked off Dozier Field. Not only had the Miners just been defeated 2-0 at the hands of Region 8 rival Wasatch, the uncertainty surrounding their future was, at the time, was still very much in the air. With the outbreak and spreading of COVID-19, the novel coronavirus, there were questions as to whether or not that would be the final sport played at Park City High School this academic year. Then just after completion of the game, it was announced that there would be an immediate suspension to all Utah High School athletics for two weeks that began on Monday. “The Association is also suspending all UHSAA spring activities and athletics, including practice and/or team gatherings, beginning Monday, March 16, for a period of at least two weeks. All out-ofstate school-related travel has been suspended immediately for a period of at least two weeks,” the Utah High School Athletic Association said in a statement last week. While there will be a re-evaluation of the situation to see whether or not to cancel the suspension or extend it, the future remains extremely murky — and something Park City coaches and activities director Jamie Sheetz have no control over. “We all knew it was a possibility. … Everyone was prepared for it to be a possibility,” Sheetz said. “Looking at everything that’s going on, it’s at a massive and nationwide scale, which talks to how serious we are all taking this. … We want to keep everyone safe and make sure people are exposed as little as possible or needed. There is hope we will play again but nobody knows for sure.” TANZI PROPST/PARK RECORD A Park City player heads the ball in the opening half of a 2-0 loss to Region 8 rival Wasatch on Thursday, March 12, at Dozier Field.
