You don’t have to work this hard. Check out the calendar in Scene for local music, events and more! JOHN KLEBA/U.S. SPEEDSKATING Parkite Casey Dawson competes at the 2020 U.S. Nationals in Salt Lake City in December. Dawson finished the event as the grand champion of the junior event, securing his spot at the Junior World Championships in February in Poland. Continued from B-1 Junior Worlds never knew how long it would take, or how much effort I would have to put in to get to this level this quickly. … But I guess it does happen to those who work for it.” Continued from B-2 Wellness Initiative while they’re here, and also allowing them the opportunity to see Park City in a different way.” There will be three levels to the event taking place, with participants able to either walk, jog or run the route that’s already been decided. Coach Nikki Dotter will be with the walking group as she’s recovering from surgery, while Taylor will be one Dawson’s immediate goal is to podium at the Junior World Championships, something he’s never done before as his best individual result was a 13thplace finish in last year’s 1500-meter competition. But following that, Dawson is looking ahead to the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, a competition he believes he’s on track to compete in if he can continue to improve. Sighting his previous experience at the 2018 Olympic trials, Dawson believes he’s not only a much better skater since then, and still getting better, he’s a much different skater mentally as well. “You can never be too sure what can happen in the next two years, but right now I feel as if I’m on track to have a good fight to get onto that team,” Dawson said. “Back then I was just learning, but now I feel like I can make an impact and truly compete with the best in the world. I’m not that good of a sprinter, like I don’t have the physical body type to do those races because I’m more of a lengthy person. … So I think the 1500-meter and 5000-meter races are more for me.” of the people leading the running group. Each run is intended to be about 30-45 minutes, with those participating in the walking or jogging portions the ability to turn back around so that everyone will be finishing up around the same time. According to Taylor, there will also be giveaways following the completion of the event, allowing the participants to mingle amongst one another and form connections. For Taylor, she’s hoping for around 25 people showing up to participate on either day, but acknowledges the more the merrier and would love to see around 50 people show up for some fun. The fact that the UofU health and Sundance Film Festival reached out to Taylor and the Park City Running Club to work together proves to Taylor that her and the club are on the right path after being in existence for just a few years. “The biggest compliment is that somebody reached out to me and thought that we’ve been around for decades, which means that we are running things the correct way if we already have that sort of outreach,” Taylor said. “I just love that the Park City Running Club has already made a substantial impact on the community, and working together with the Sundance Film Festival just proves that even more. Our brand and group of runners are very strong, and more than anything just honored and really excited for the future of the running club.” |
